to buy or not to buY

Ive recently decided to convert a school bus to a towing tow rig slash camper. What Im looking for is something that will tow my toys out to events yet still provide all the comforts of a nice camper. My trailer with my buggy on it is around 15k. The research I have done tells me I want some thing with a mechanical dt466. Just so happens a friend of mine has a nice bus with a dt466 in it, already has a nice custom paint job and around 150k miles. The problem is it has a AT545. Can I mod the 545 to do what I want or am I wasting my money.
Any suggestions would be great

I personally would not tow with a 545. Most of the time they are at their limit and towing would cause a rapid failure. Now I'm not talking about toad towing I'm talking about heavy trailer/load towing. I'm sure so folks will disagree, and that's ok. Ultimately you must decide. Good luck and have fun.

Well, looks like ill be getting the bus today. I have located a person locally that has most the parts needed to swap in a mt653 or mt643 ( trans., flywheel, pres. Plate, and flanges) for 950 dollars. Looks like ill need a new cooler, cooler lines and shorten the drive shaft. More money and work than I was planning but the end result will be worth it.

No, not yet. I want to get the bus camping ready before I do the swap. But I do plan on doing it. The person I am getting the parts from told me it is very straightforward.
