Cut out new door

Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum as of today. I did do a quick search for "custom door" "cutout door" and some other things I thought would be relevant, but I don't think I'm able to find exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm in a band, and I'd like to install a door in the back of the bus for loading. The problem is... the bus doesn't have a back door! Only an emergency escape window! Has anyone had any luck cutting out a door frame and installing a custom one? It doesn't need to be a full sized door; it just needs to be big enough for a Bass drum and some cabs to slide into. So basically, a 4' x 4' hole in the rear that doesn't leak.

I've got a 25' Champion shuttle bus that I'm converting to a tour van. Thanks for any help or suggestions!!

Re: Cut out new door

welcome

normally if they have a window and no door it is a rear pusher or a Crown with a trunk

so on that note anything is possible with a metal frame or wood that is bonded into/on the fiberglass;so it's sturdy

Re: Cut out new door

Welcome!
Champion owner here. Do a little bit of exploring for any framework back there. (Betting no). Its just the fiberglass shell + plywood inside-at least 4 1/2" up from the floor. I have a back door in mine-there is metal above it-but the wall could easily be altered.
