I am ready to give up. Too old to finish all my projects.
I have a 1955 Crown that was mostly converted many years ago but never finished.
I selected this bus because it is just under 30 feet.
I was told at the time that they were preferred in Nat'l Parks.
Many years ago I went to Crown in Chino & by serendipity I ran into the engineer who worked on this design back in the day.
He gave me quite a tour & lecture!
He told me there were very few of these little (29.6) buses made.
He explained many ways these buses were structurally superior to others due to special materials & design.
I had been a fan of Crowns before that, but he really sealed it for me.
It has a queen bed in the back, 2 bunks along the left side, and a wet toilet on the right.
Has fridge, stove, and hide-a-bed up front.
Inside is spruce veneer with a nice figuring.
There was a velour headliner, but it fell down.
Roof & side spaces have been filled with foam.
It has newer power mirrors, Onan generator (4000?) in the rear compartment, and a roof mounted A/C.
There is a hydraulic leveling system which is not installed.
And probably a bunch of other stuff I can't remember...
Was a Hall/Scott 504 with a Clark 5-speed. That system went to scrap and was over 3000 lbs!
After the bus was converted to a (rebuilt) 1976 Cadillac 503 / turbo 400, the bus sits a couple inches higher on the springs, and should probably have some leaves removed.
Back when I had it running, it got down the road. 80 no problem.
Now it needs work on the air brake system, tires, and cooling system to run.
I'll take $5000. (a fraction of what I put into it!)
