Waste Plastic Gas/Diesel

Postby NewbieNut » Fri Dec 21, 2012 10:04 pm

Hey I am new to post, have lurked for a number of years. Still have not purchased my first bus, (hopefully buying this year) so time to stop lurking :) Before I start hitting you with a bunch of newbie bus questions, I thought I would contribute something I haven't seen mentioned here,

Melting waste plastic to reclaim both gasoline and Diesel. The Chinese produce very expensive (over 100 thousand dollar) machines to do this, and there has been some hype on utube about it.

The guys over here at this alt engery forum seem to be making backyard units for under a thousand dollars, that are producing fuel from scrap plastic.

http://www.energeticforum.com/renewable ... eaply.html

its a very long read, and they are not friendly about answering questions that have been asked over and over in the thread, but there is a LOT of info there and back and forth discussion between people doing this tech.

I would love to see my schoolie run on waste plastic :)

Have you ever noticed that these alternatives to gas/diesel always take up a lot of space to do? They certainly aren't a compact system. At least not in the terms of living in a campground/RV park/mobile home park in a tiny footprint. Either the conversion equipment takes up a lot of space or the storage of the pre-product takes up a lot of space or you have a substantial amount of by-product to get rid of. Something that is often difficult to achieve in a campground/RV park/mobile home park.

I may be wrong, but that "footprint" looks doable in a bus. perhaps have to wheel it outside to do it...but yes I wouldn't expect your average campground to want you to melt down plastic in the "yard"..

But if your already making bio diesel yourself..I think this would not be that much more difficult.

but then I plan on having a smelter on the the bus as well. This plastic 2 oil tech does not look much different than building a good smelter. cept for the off gasing, but its nothing hi-tech for sure.
