Safest way to strap tanks

Hey we have 55 gal barrels to strap under our bus, what is the safest, most secure way to do this??? Rachett straps, or metal strapping, what is the max weight, and/or what kind of metal should we be looking for, or where to find good scrap metal to use. Thanks

while i wouldnt use a strap for a 55 gallon drum, if i were going to do so, i would use metal straps for gas tanks - something like wide banding material... and put a strip of rubber between the strap and the tank so that the strap wont cut in to the tank..
I would build a angle iron frame work, and strap the tank to its floor...

the problem with old bed frames is the exact same problem with car springs... ya can weld them, but the weld will break...
bolted bed frame rails are fine, but never welded.
btw. same steel as in old car bumper supports...

I used 3" wide ratchet straps I got for 17$ at six states truck supply in Portland Oregon for my 55 gal drum and have driven over 10k miles with no trouble. The trick for me was to mount it up against the frame so if I stop or go it hits the metal frame of my bus. If you aren't so lucky with placement I would to cut a notch in your drum wide enough for the ratchet strap and brace it back to front. Make sure your notch is smooth so it doesn't cut yo strizzap.
