My WVO conversion

I'm 98% finished with what I've had in my brain for a while. Where the heck do you put a system in a van-based shortie? The answer was underneath.
My tank pick up -pex line for the fuel-gas line for the water. Iv'e seen them all coiled up for the heat. I'm not worried-my tank is only 1 foot away from the filter.

My tank doesn't have any baffles-and I was worried about picking up fuel once it got low. So I made up this little chamber (out of a just out of a plastic jug. a couple of trapdoor might hold enuff to keep it from sucking air when low. (Idea taken from roadrace engines i build at work-they have baffled oil pans like this.

I made a steel plate and mounted some 100 lb drawer tracks.

I made sure everything would fit and be servicible if needed. Greasecar solinoids-generic remote oil filter mounts (for a Ford-3/4" X16 thread) The heater section is an oil cooler from a ford pick up. I had to make up an adapter to make it work.

I wanted to be able to shut off the coolant-just in case.

The hose is "push lock" from Mcmaster Carr. hi heat-hi press-strong stuff. Actually cheap too-only $1.20 a foot. Color coded just to be fancy. Happyness is never having to chase an air leak-or tighten a hose clamp.

Heres what it like retacted. The fuel hose bends nice-the heater hose I had to be a bit more careful to avoid kinks.

I pitched the tank down a bit towards the front to be sure the pick up stays under fuel. Next up is make the cover and a trap door..

Re: My WVO conversion

If you are using an oil filter for wvo, be careful. Most oil filters have a bypass if they get clogged. Better to run an engine on dirty oil than burn it up with clean oil that can't get past a plugged filter. If the same thing happens with wvo, all that crud with dump right into your IP resulting in huge loss of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Nice looking setup by the way.

Oh no--its fuel filters--I'm just using what was originally made as an oil cooler to provide hot water to heat up the wvo. (wix 3281? i believe?) It was the largest 3/4x16 thread fuel filter I could find . Original use is Fiat Chambers equipment + Iveco trucks.

I will be using Racors like this. I have bought a number over the years for less than $100 each. Replacement filter run about $6 by the case and you can see what's going on through the clear bowl.

Re: My WVO conversion

What's up with the DOT numbers on the side. It's not still a bus is it? Unless you need to have those on there, I would take them off. Here in CA, CHP can pull you over whenever they feel like it if you have numbers like that on your rig. Commercial vehicles have a different set of rules.

Re: My WVO conversion

Sorry-just noticed this post. Homemade system-Greasecar valves. Alot has been said of Frybrid-most concerning hi price+extreme long wait for paid for product. I get oil from a couple of small resturants-filtered to 1 micron. Dont even think of converting untill you get a grease supply in place! a 7.3 loves grease. I dont use it in the winter-but did do a 800 mile trip in the upper 30's last november-the large exposed tank didnt help oil temps-but it kept running fine.
