main cab wire harness???? Help please

Hello all,

Im brand new to the forum and currently own a 1979 ford carpenter B600 shorbus with the 370. About 2 weeks ago the a bunch of the wires fried on the main cab wire harness. Im having trouble trying to find a replacement and was hoping someone would know where to look. I bought this 5 years ago and have never really had any issues except for the clutch going out. I use this as my "drunk bus" to haul my group of friends around from bar to bar atleast once a month.

Thanks for any help

you can always buy a aftermarket wiring harness like a painless one and start over.. or if only partly fried, you can sometimes carefully separate the burned portion wires and with a bunch of the correct colors, splice in new wiring to the end connectors..

Yeah I was looking to get a replacement. I think that would be easiest since theres a bundle of burnt up. I'm having a hard time finding a wire harness. I've typed in 79 ford b600 main wire harness and can't seem to find anything. Im not sure if I'm searching wrong. Any input?

Thanks.

Re: main cab wire harness???? Help please

i was talking about an aftermarket wiring harness. they are used when you are starting with no wiring harness, and the good ones have all wires numbered and color coded, which makes things easier to hook up. the ford dealer might be able to get a harnss for you, but your vehicle is 1979, which is probably too old. i would think that for a vehicle that old, which has much more simplified wiring, that one of the good street rod wiring harnesses would word, although you might have to extend the wires some, and make other alternations, depending upon extra gauges, etc that your vehicle may have.

Okay yeah I've been calling around and ain't having no luck. Even talked to painless. I've been asking for a main cab wire harness for a 79 ford b600. Is there any other vehicles like a f450 that will work?

Thanks

Re: main cab wire harness???? Help please

If you go aftermarket you will have to replace it all from fuse box to the end,no manufacture will have just "part" of a factory harness for your vehicle.

I have used several of these kits and they are well marked and easy to install.
You need to know what circuts you need and kit a matching type of kit.

this page has a ton of different kits

If you are unsure of what you need or need to order then call painless and they'll help get the parts, stuff or harness you need.......

It's why they call it painless because ? well it is....... you wallet has no feelings what so ever.

Re: main cab wire harness???? Help please

Hey Dub C,

I have the exact same bus (see my gallery) and am working on re-wiring the thing as well (mainly because I had some gauges fail and made a new dash panel with all new gauges). I bought a painless wiring kit, but haven't installed it yet. I will check on the exact model of harness and let you know the specifics of what I bought, but I think that, with a little work, you should be able to get an aftermarket harness to work.

My only concern with the re-wiring project is that I want to remove the governor and not sure how to go about that. Going to post a separate message about that in the forum.

Also, would love to chat about any challenges/successes you have with your bus. I also have some wiring schematics that might be helpful...just need to get them scanned...

Cheers,
