Re: 2000 international
Do you have the correct motor mounts, linkages, plumbing, trans adapter? Will the trans have to be moved back to fit the engine? If yes, the driveshaft will need to be shortened. If you have the parts already, it shouldn't be too bad. If you need to buy parts, it adds up quick.

Re: 2000 international
Motor mounts and trans mounts can be easily fabbed, and even driveshafts built if ya phase them correct and check the balance. I have found that it often takes as much time to mount oil coolers and/or build a new core support for a larger radiator, than making mounts.
Also the exhaust pipes have to be mig welded, fuel lines run, etc.
Changing a diesel engine i think, is easier than putting in a modern drive train in an old car.
I am not an expert on that either, since it was like 1966 when i built my first car frame, etc for the drags.
ol Trunt is the expert...

Re: 2000 international
We are a full service repair shop and junk yard, so we have access to alot of parts, lol lol, we build our own race cars so if we have to fab something up it should be no problem. We just didnt know what the major road block would be, our 7.3 is getting tired, and the cummins is barely broke in. Thanks for any help and advice

So that answers alot...yes it will work go for it.
Worst case maybe have to push motor back to keep it out of the radiator....

Re: 2000 international
Reason there is some dislike for the 5.9 is what is called the "dowel pin of Death"...
Before a mod was done a dowel pin in the timing gear area would come out and eat the gears and bust the timing cover.

Re: 2000 international
I love my setup, but an 8.3 and an MD3060 would be my dream combo

If you are going through all that hassle you will be let down if you throw a 5.9 in there, better make it the good ol 8.3 Cummins. OTHERWISE just throw some money at that 7.3 and it will make you happy, some fuel sticks and turbo upgrade will make plenty of long term power. Make sure you keep that trans cool and if it's an AT545 then you might want to consider a trans swap more than the engine swap since you are pulling weight, something like a Allison B300 or MD3060....

If you want a bus with a 5.9 you can buy a whole bus with a 5.9 already in it for less than the cost of swapping engines.
I generally agree with the comment above regarding displacement in this case I would take the 5.9 over the 7.3. I have a strong preference for I6's over V8's.
