DT444e Warn Light

Hi, I recently purchased a 1995 International 65 passenger school bus with around 221,000 miles on it. When I bought it, the engine warn light didn't turn on, but after driving it two and a half hours home, and leaving it overnight, the engine warn light along with a dinging noise comes on when I turn the ignition, then turns off, then turns back on again. I've consulted the diagnostics manual, and it only covers a light that remains on. When I press the accelerator, the beeping speeds up slightly. The speedometer and RPM gauge don't work because the chip that runs them is broken, I'm hoping this is the source of the problem. Any help would be appreciated, I'm dying to get back behind the wheel!

Re: DT444e Warn Light

The light is supposed to turn on and off with the ignition, that is part of the bulb check that all vehicles do.

If there is no fault, it should stay off after the bulb test. If it turns on after the vehicle is running - Which yours seems to have done, from your description - Then there is a fault and you should proceed with troubleshooting steps.

Re: DT444e Warn Light

Thanks, does anybody know what type of scan tool a 1995 T444e engine would use, and where to purchase it?

Engine scanner

Any scanner that is used for OBD2 can be used. Go to most auto stores to check for any codes. The scanner that costs the most is a better tester. A $50 scanner is the best deal for the dollar. The results of a scan are mostly just a guide for cause and effect.

Re: DT444e Warn Light

The International trucks from that era have a different connector than standard OBDII. They call it an ATA connector (American Trucking Association). I have the manual for these engines if you want to take a look: https://www.dropbox.com/s/y1vt3i3ude...0optimized.pdf. Page 59 talks a bit about the connector and diagnostic tool.

Re: DT444e Warn Light

you can buy a scan guage, very handy to have, it will give you all kinds of info such mpg temps, etc, it will also give you engine codes, then you look them up on line to see what it means. make sure you get the diesel, there is also a little button where the ob2 connector plugs into that you can push and one of the dash lights will flash , you count the flashes and it will give you a code as well, not sure how to do that should be able to google it, I have a scan gauge.
