Re: 87 Wayne Lifeguard international S1700 CXXVI
i cant seem to get any of my photos to upload. the board says it has reached it upload capacity. i think this bus has a 7.3 and not a 6.9 in it. the only identifying marking i can see it a navastar oil capacity sticker that has 7.3 checked off on it. the guy at the bus shop said my bus has a new engine.

Re: 87 Wayne Lifestar international S1700 CXXVI
check to see if it has a plate or sticker above or near the driver's area that lists the engine, axles, etc.
there are several skoolie people close to you, which im sure will be glad to help you, as well as some coach people.

Open a photobucket account and then PM me for instructions on how to post your pics. You also must have your pics stored on your computer. This will allow you to post as many pics as you want. Jack

Re: 87 Wayne Lifeguard international S1700 CXXVI
thanks Bansil, the engine was listed as a 6.9 the bus shop guy said mine was the newest one of the lot of 3 being sold. the only id i see listed on the engine is the Navistar engine oil Capacity sticker which shows its oil capacity at 7.3. does anyone know if there are any other features do distinguish between a 6.9 7.3 IDI engine? if anyone sees anything standing out in my photos please let me know
Thanks
Eric

Re: 87 Wayne Lifestar international S1700 CXXVI
From what I understand, the 6.9 and 7.3 International engines are pretty much identical except for the size of the piston bore. So there is no sticker on the driver side cylinder head cover? Here is a link to some good information on those engines: http://www.forgottendiesels.com/ford_diesel.html

Re: 87 Wayne Lifeguard international S1700 CXXVI
Thanks Dan,
i got the rest of the seats out today, and some of the rubber floor. all thats left is the drivers seat and the divider thing behind it. something drained my battery. could be some kind of short from one of the wires they cut, a bad battery or something like that, so im going to need to do some work figuring that out.
thanks
Eric

Re: 87 Wayne Lifeguard international S1700 CXXVI
Dan, i didn't see a sticker on the drivers side. if i wasn't jammed in so close to the trees i could take a closer look. one of my photos is of the drivers side engine and it is bare.

Re: 87 Wayne Lifestar international S1700 CXXVI
I bought one of those chargers and it crapped out right away, got an exchange and that one crapped out. Maybe it was a bad batch? But after the second failure I just got a refund and went to Sears to get a better quality charger. Just sayin', if your batteries do not appear to be getting charged I would suspect the charger as potentially being faulty.

That is the first school bus I have seen that actually has a battery hold down

Re: 87 Wayne Lifestar international S1700 CXXVI
Battery posts and terminals look awfully dirty and oxidized. Clean them out first because they put a high resistance on the electrical path.

I'd suggest that you clean all the terminals as they are way too dirty to function properly. All you really need to go with that spagetti is a can of meat balls
