Re: new member 1965 chevy

hi chuck i guess in wondering if this unit should be an invertor not a convertor i do not know how old this unit is and am wondering if it is deemed obsolete it seems to me that when not on shore power i should be inverting not converting? or do most use both? thanks for replying chuck!

Re: new member 1965 chevy

that is just a converter, it will charge your batteries. Most of your lights are probably set up as 12V so no need for the Inverter.
If you start adding new things that need 110V then you need to get an Inverter if you want to use them when not connected to shorepower.

I really love all the tongue and groove, mine will get a bit of that too.

You say you have it registered as an RV in BC, do you mind me asking how much you are paying a year? What kind of coverage?
I'm still trying to decide if it is worth jumping through all the hoops to have mine registered as an RV. If I keep it as "Bus for Pleasure use only" it costs me around $1400.

We should organize a Western Canada Skoolie meet

Re: new member 1965 chevy

ok swinada i went to the icybicky office today for a insurance quote with full discount, 10 grand value comprehensive 300 deductable and 2 million liability the cost per year was 750 so the mohome designation makes a pretty big difference. they were talking about what it takes to be a mohome and it was pretty much all the basics that are listed in this forum. the previous owners had replacement value of my bus at 30000 must have been a long time ago. todat i powerwashed for 7 hours and blew 50 pounds of paint off it looks like the partridge family bus now. and western meet sounds great! as long as yer not bringing any of those furry things that live in yer moter

darn, i tought I could just bring them along and let them hop ship (bus)

For the registering as RV in BC, according to our ICBC office its not that easy, because according to them everything has to be inspected and certified according to todays standards. Which means a certified electrician for electrical, certified plumber, certified gas fitter etc.
I'll just do my ow conversion and then see if I can find somebody that will certify it or register it without to many questions. If that dont work I'll leave it as pleasure use bus.

A friend of mine just picked up a Thomas in Campbell River, it cost him $170 for the ferry ride from Nanaimo to Tawassen.

Re: new member 1965 chevy

ok i have been wire wheeling the paint off the bus an the panels under the windows i wire wheel down to metal then primer the area 1 area at a time the panels around the old window openings have a wood grain simulation in them and do not need to go to metal that helps i will be busy for a while but will do it in stages im finding it easier to take the corrogated areas down to metal with the aggresive wire wheel than trying to sand and leave the last layer on theres alot of paint on there but after all this bus is the same age as me and problably in better shape
