Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

Beautiful bus! I'm jealous even though I just picked up a Crown Supercoach II last week. (Bluebird would have been my choice if I hadn't found the Crown that I did.) Is that a 78 or 84 passenger configuration? How many miles are on it?

72 passenger. 190k and 6100 hrs. Pretty nice shape. Just dug up the school district that owned it prior. I chatted with the service manager there and he wanted it back...lol. He said it was a great activities bus, very nice bus.

That's a sharp looking bus, btw. Good score. Belly bins on both sides. Doors on both sides. A cool set-up. How deep are the bins? Also, what did you end up giving for it, if I may so boldly inquire?

Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

I'm not sure I like this idea of a cut off grinder for these seats....hmmm. With all the space taken up below, I cant get to but 4 seats to put a wrench on. Who wants a weeks vacation in MT?

Anyways......they wanted $9500, I gave them $5500. Pricey, but as I stated before, no such thing as a cheap bus around here. I would rather spend the money here than have to fly to TN and then drive back. I am well pleased.

[Its available in HD too, if you swing that way]. I had to pull the right door piston off to get inside the heater box. That is why it is hanging there.

Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

I wish I could come up there for a mini vacation- not happening, though.
So the belly bins are pass through- that's cool. That is a nice looking bus.
Are all of those tabs with holes through them, along the windows- are they for a stop cord to pass through, like some city buses use? If not, what are they for?

Thanks. That's a nice sounding engine. I'll trade you a Cat 3208NA for it, won't even charge you extra.

Those were for the overhead luggage racks that were SUPPOSED to come with it. I'm working on that though. I think I want some of them, not sure.

Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

I did it by myself. 4 yesterday and the rest today. It took me about 5 hrs today. I Could only get 4 with a wrench, due to the center tank and all the bays. Windows are staying as is, they are tinted, I will 5% most of them. I am toying with pulling the sides off but there are a lot of rivets. I think you could cut them off pretty quick with a cutting disk, one would think.

Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

Air chisel BABY! What a pain that was! Took a sample of the floor, to see what it would be like to remove. [make mental note to self; refrain from cutting through steel floor next time].

I am unsure of what to do with the walls. We've had a good rain or two lately and there is only one or two leaks that I can find. Should I keep this insulation or replace it all with pink board? I am planning on a plywood wall with carpet or material on it. Should I leave it and place a 1/2" pink board over it in between furring strips? I do believe it is wool insulation?

Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

It all depends on how much work you want to do. There are two predominate thoughts on this: 1) do a quick and simple conversion, then use it, abuse it, then get rid of it.; 2) make it a quality RV, gut it and then build using quality stuff--which costs a small fortune of which you will only recover a small portion of.

I persue the middle path (left the side walls in btw). I use what I got, modify it, or fabricate & take a huge amount of time and effort to make a little progress. By the time I get it ready to go they'll have taxed diesel so much (greenhouse gas thing) that my trips will be very, very short. Like--gotta move bus and mow the weeds under it.

Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

I dont want to put a "lot of time and effort" into this. Reason being, its a vehicle. It could blow up, get totalled, etc....then I would be totally out. I do want it nice, I do want it clean. But I am not going to make love to the thing. I am thinking I might just seal the couple leaks and put the insulation back in then add 1/2" - 3/4" pink board and put the wood on it and call the walls good. The insulation is in very good shape.

I am glad I got the skins off because the curiosity would have been the end of me....lol.

Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

You're at the point where you might as well frame for RV windows, and skin the existing widow area. I saw a bus from Idaho (in Anacortes, WA) that did this, and it looked very sharp. It was a bird, so it had the brows.

Don't put the batts back in, use some sort of foam. I left my walls alone because I am: 1) lazy, 2) I figured the factory metal made a good vapor barrier. Your vid proves that.

Birds rule!
