In search of a skoolie or shortie or...

Postby Tesseract » Thu May 10, 2012 8:59 am

Hey Family...

I am looking for our home. I am open to whatever the Universe has to offer, but in ideal I am looking for a bus that is converted into epic living space... even more ideal is a bus that has the veg oil conversion... even MORE ideal is something reasonably priced. I am not fixed on it being a bus (the perfect unique rig may just not be a bus, who knows!) and I am not attached to it being converted in any way.

I am open minded to driving to any state to pick it up.

Thanks... :)

Haha... cool... I meant more in a hippie-dippie woo manifestation sorta way "I wonder what the universe has in store for me!"....

Anyway.

I will be buying a bus withing the next month (once I find the right one). I am hopeful to find something already converted into a living space and ideally converted to veg (long shot, and not a requirement)... or has an ideal system for a veg conversion. I am cool with "funky" as in customized to be cool or different or unique (paint job, modifications, etc). I am not cool with "funky" as in banged up, wont start, has serious leaks, smells like shit, etc...

Sure am motivated. :)

if ya want a hippie bus, look in huntsville alabama craigslist for a cheap low mileage 92 or so flat nose about 75 passenger...you will be able to tell it from its paint job.

Are you talkin about this one (http://huntsville.craigslist.org/rvs/3012749062.html) or another one?

Also, being a noob, I would love input on the bus I linked above. The price is right as far as my economics are concerned (looking for something under 5K, ideally), but I don't know anything about buses. What am I actually looking at here (other than a cool already converted hippie bus... I have stars in my eyes, so I need the peeps that are experienced and informed to help with information or to point me towards my own research).

i would see if it has a rear wheel hub meter.. after all, it has only 117k miles on it, so mechanically it should be really good. and i would also check if there is rust on the frame, etc. with that low of mileage, it should be very good i think. ky aint so far from there...

I happen to find something in the town I am in right now (Danville, KY). I dunno if this is a good deal or not.

I am going to go see this bus in person today. I talked to the owner, and he says that it needs a new alternator, but that it runs with help of the generator (?). The two 12volt deep cell batteries need replaced. I am a total newbie here, friends... is this a good price for this bus (it seems to me like it is, but what do I know? Nada!).... Also, what is an alternator replacement going to be like? Is that a no biggie 1k-ish job that a mechanic can do? What about batteries?

I will be googling and doing my footwork, too, but I sure would love to have some informed input from this group of peeps.

Help a momma and her kiddos not get taken for a ride (pardon the pun). I have about 6K ALL TOGETHER for this project, so that would include alternator, batteries, registration and DMV stuff, etc..

What about veg conversions? How is this system for that?

HALP!!!

Thanks in advance

Is the plan to park the bus and live in it or will you be travelling? Long trips or short trips?
