83 G30 Short Bis

My wife and I just got this bus. We started tearing it apart yesterday and noticed under the floor the are some big rust holes. We're wondering the best thing to do to cover these. We have a welder and I. Ought some galvanized metal to fill the holes but the flooring is like a truck bed rippled not smooth so welding I'm affraid will create pockets. I'm also curious about rust removal and sealing it. What are you guys using to do it? I need the floor to be sound obviously but we have two little girls and two dogs that will be running through this bus as well. Last thought I heard from someone just to treat the rust and lay new subfloors g over the holes. Do t know if that is a great idea. Thanks

If the floor is rusted through you really should cut out the cancer and replace it with new metal.

And don't be welding on galvanized. It's coated with zinc which does not get along with your body when vaporized by high heat.

Just grind away the galvanic coating along the weld areas and you will be ok.

It is mighty difficult to go back and fix the metal floor later, especially once your cabinets and flooring are in.

Post some pics- we will guide you. Sounds like your floor is corrugated- they sell rust-repair panels for that. Just check rib dimensions carefully.

Like this

I say cut-out rust and spot weld new steel in. seal seams.
