Bus Door
I have been a long time follower of Skoolie and now have my own bus conversion almost done. I remember one of the conversions changed the door of their bus so that it was welded and opened outward. they also put a handle and deadbolt on. Can anyone help me with which conversion that was? I can't do welding so will need a local welder to help me and he asked to see the pictures. But I just can't remember which conversion it was on this site.

Or if anyone has a picture of a weld job they did to make the door rigid and how they made it swing outward instead of folding inward. It would be a huge help.

Not exactly what you're asking for but if you measure your door frame you may be able to buy a security/storm door from a home improvement store that will fit in there nicely... no welding required.

Never thought of the Home Security Door myself. I was leaning more toward Marine Doors (no, not USMC).

Some have been able to find/salvage RV doors that fit.
Capt. Are you missing the (knee/head knockers) hatchways onboard the boat? They did ask about securing the hatches so a real marine door would keep the marines out for a little while and anyone else would just go through the big front windows no matter how your door is secured.
a good watertight and securable door is needed.

I have TWO front doors that open outward. They are NOT bi-fold doors. I was thinking more on the order of Freeman Marine doors. These are custom fit and can be equipped with keylocks and dogs.

I rode submarines. There were 6 bulkhead hatches and 4 deck hatches. There were NO knee knockers. Mind you, the hull was 2" thick and the bulkheads weren't much thinner.

Mine are the same as yours.
To secure from the outside I made a piece of angle iron and clips bolted to the door that I could drop in place padlock and walk?
The problem with that idea is that once the door was pushed tight enough not to leak the drivers door handle latches so I end up in and out the back door anyway.
So I am in limbo on this issue also (money and time)
Just messing with you capt. I do like your idea.
Trying to stay original on the body except for storage underside and my ideas changed when I started DOT inspections but I understand there point

I'm not sure if this is in your wheelhouse, but I built a new door from square tube and sheet metal. Since I've gotten the windows in it looks and works pretty good (I can still use the air ram to open and close it)

Missourileo, sorry, but I have WAY TOO MUCH GLASS in those doors to support that type of lock. Right now, I use a length of chain secured by two keyed-alike padlocks. Mind you, if someone truly wanted in there, they'd get in. Locks only keep honest people honest.

I looked up your link for the security doors. It looks like they are screen doors. Did you replace the screen with Plexiglas?

No it is a security door with removable security glass, it has a screen that you could put up during nice weather though...
