Capacities

Looking for information on engine oil, radiator, auto transmission and other capacities for my bus. Anyone know capacities or a place to find such info?

Re: Capacities

Check your levels and then when you change out just put the same amount back in. Is that what you meant? Posting specifics of your ride might catch someone with a similar rides ear.

Re: Capacities

Gallons.

You should be able to find the oil capacity on google or even on this site somewhere. My bus takes 5 gallons with a filter change. The AT545 transmission takes about 5 gallons of fluid with the normal pan on it if you change the filter out, but this could vary by as much as a quart depending on how much drainback occurs due to wear, how many external filters you have, etc. As far as coolant goes, I've never fully drained my system. I do know that 1 inch low in the radiator means 2 full gallons low though.

Re: Capacities

I hope my motor a DTA 360 doesn't take 5 gallons of oil! I figured maybe 2 or 2 1/2. At $11/gal for Rotella that would be $55 just for oil. How often do you change your oil?

Re: Capacities

I guess when you think about it that way it wouldn't be so bad. I probably can get by changing the oil once a year, no more miles than I will put on it. I will probably see if they offer a 5 gal container. It may be a little cheaper that way.

Re: Capacities

I called Tractor supply and they wanted $59.99 for 5 gal of Rotella oil. Walmart has it for $11.50 gal or $27.00 2 1/2 gal. I will buy the oil and filters next month. Maybe I can catch a nice day between then and spring to change it.

Re: Capacities

Diesels hold a lot of oil. My Powerstrokes took 15 Qts., my Cummins took 11-12 Qts. My concrete truck took 44 Qts I think. That's right, 11 gallons of oil.
