Generator and Electrical

Newbie here. I've searched a lot of the forums, but still have a couple questions. I've just started my conversion, and I only plan to use shore power or generator power. I don't have any need at this point for batteries. Can I plug my shore power cable directly into my generator when I'm going down the road or parked in the tailgating lots? Or do I have to wire the generator into the electrical box? I read where someone else said they wired a separate receptacle for the generator and then plugged the cord into that receptacle, but I'm wondering why I can't just plug the cord directly into the generator. Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Brad

Re: Generator and Electrical

you purchase a power transfer switch to automatically switch the shore power to the generator power and back and forth. they are around 80 - 125 $ or so on eBay.
You also need to look up the threads on how to hook everything together, and most people add a converter and or an inverter into the system for use while traveling down the road.
