Governor adjustment

Well I brought the girls home the other night. A 1992 International 71 pass. with a DTA360 and AT545 and a 1983 International 71 pass. with a DT466 and MT643. And get this. Both have 2 fuel tanks (100 gal?) and were full! Don't know the gear ratios yet, going to call the school mechanic today. Anyway, the 466 tops out @ 62mph pedal to the floor on flat ground (2700 rpms) and the 360 @ about 65 also @ about 2700 rpms. Any governor/hp adjustment I can do and how? I realize gear ratios will also be a determining factor, but when it comes to these things I am definitely a goober.

And just a note. I ran over my neighbors eyeballs after they popped out of her head when she realized these two monsters were going to be in the driveway across the street. Kinda gives ya the warm fuzzies, don't it.

9 inches of something cold, white and wet fell from the sky over the holiday weekend here in Texas. Never saw it before. Any clues?

Re: Governor adjustment

if you're already spinning 2,700 rpm's you don't need to turn your govenor up, you need to swap out the rear end gears

i turned up the govenor on my dt360. mine wouldn't turn over 2300 rpm when i first bought it. Anyhow.....It's easy to turn up the govenor, but 3100 is redline for that motor and you're pretty close to that already.

That dt466/mt643 should be really happy with a 4:10 set of gears!

Re: Governor adjustment

Thanks gang,

Pictures will be coming shortly. I'm coming to your house, Lapeer so instead of a jacuzzi that telescopes up, I want my toilet to telescope skyward thru the roof. I like to look around. 4:10 huh? Didn't get to call the bus barn today to find out gear ratios, but will call tomorrow. And Jimmy, those doors are crying for a bed slideout out the back. Well it's obvious that I have a lot to learn. I'll start a thread in the right place and start posting pics and telling stories.

Re: Governor adjustment

Drove them only 175 miles to get home. Cruised around a little yesterday. The GF took the our elderly buddy neighbor for a ride and we went to work this morning stripping them out. Already collecting parts and ready to convert at least one of these babies.

Re: Governor adjustment

What does swapping out the rear gears entail? Where would you get them and how would you install them? Would my bus go faster, enough to make it worth it?

Re: Governor adjustment

Just remember, guys, that wind resistance increases much faster than road speed. My brain is out of gear today, but it's something like wind resistance doubles with a small increase in speed. And wind resistance means fuel consumption.
