I followed a very similar process using a cardboard template. If you look at the pictures of my walls you will see a small border of white around the edges. This is just cheapy bathroom caulk used to take up what little inaccuracies existed and to keep things quiet and sealed while still allowing for the coach to flex without possible damaging the skin on the walls. My walls seem to fit a semi-monocoque type construction in that there are 2x2 studs that anchor to the floor and ceiling with a layer of white foam insulation between, but it all really came together and stiffened up when the 1/4 inch luan skin was added.
