anybody know how to hack this? Or at least break into one/reset access code? This is totally badass, but my fingers have set off a beeping alarm

have you tried laminator customer service? they may be able to give you a reset code, or send you a pdf of the operating manual. you are the end user now.

Why last resort? It should be your first try. Unless you really want a challenge, the manufacturer has all the answers. Since you already own one of thier products, it's a customer service/support issue.

I guess our experience with product support is different?

The only way it could be cooler would be bigger, more pixels, and full-color....and one for the rear too?

Hahaha. Probably not, but I am optimistic. Find any s/n or p/n you can before you try. Just an email explaining that you now own this and the previous owner didn't include a manual... Could pay off.
Good luck!

Not sure if this is the same model, but this is the best video I could find on Youtube.

I should note, the video posted above is from a user that specializes in repair and supply of these systems.

Until you figure out the beep, just unplug it or pull the fuse

The guy who has the Youtube channel, has a site - but man .. so hard to navigate - and I have a background in web software engineering!! lol

Anyway, here is a page for complete units he has for sale - Rollsign Gallery - Transit Store - Electronic Signs

At the top of his page - he has an FAQ related to your question:

Q: Do you have the software to program these signs available for sale?
A: I do have the software for these signs, BUT because of Copyright restrictions, I am NOT LEGALLY PERMITTED to sell or give away copies of
it. If you would like to get your own copy of the Luminator software, please contact Luminator directly, at (972) 424-6511. Ask for the "Luminator
IPS" software.

Called "customer support" - as I expected close to useless. She did tell me how to turn off the alarm. Then told me I need to purchase a flash card for $400, then asked how many buses I had - after I told her my story of the ONE bus. I will keep searching.

I would call Rollsign in the link above. They can likely point you in the right direction!

I wonder how many people on here actually have those signs. You may be unique! Lol

Looked at his site pretty well, looks like he sells his reprogramming services, not software - I want to be able to change at will, not ship him my card every time I want to change it. May call him anyway?

Its possible the access code requires a handset to reset. Try visiting a local transit company and buy one of their techs a drink

Did you figure this out? Just just purchased a 2000 Gillig and would like the change the sign.

Thanks!

Huh. Not sure how I missed this thread when it came up before.. guess I haven't been regular enough on the skoolie site!

Back in 2015 (teaser) I reverse-engineered the protocol Luminator used (uses?) between the ODK and the display itself. I figured I have no specific need for the ODK necessarily; I'm happy to provide a computer of my own which I fully control rather than figure out how to program theirs.

In a nutshell, the link between ODK and sign(s) uses RS-485 to deliver one or more bitmaps to each sign. If more than one bitmap is sent to a sign, logic insdie the sign will automatically rotate through the set of bitmaps. As I recall they can hold up to 8 frames. I never did investigate whether the frame change interval is adjustable. It wouldn't make sense to go very fast; it takes a few hundreds of msec to flip the dots to re-draw the sign anyway.
