Pocket doors

I have been going over many ideas for my bedroom door. I think the old style hinged doors take up to much room and you hve to keep the doorway larger to make up for the swing area. Have anyone used pocket doors. They are the doors that slide into the wall. I have lived in a few houses that have had them. I liked how they just go away when oped. This allows for more efficient use of you space. I am leaning to this idea.

The only issue I see with Pocket doors is my ceiling is not much taller than I and it is curved. I wouldn't mind the door shorter than the ceiling with a gap at the top. Except I think the track the door rides in goes to the bottom and top of the door.

Help I need ideas!

Re: Pocket doors

Hi-

I thought about pocket doors too, and came up against the same questions you have. If the door is sliding across the [long axis of the] bus, there really isn't a way to get around the curve of the ceiling and how it limits the height of the door. For the tracks being visible, I thought that the use of drawer slides within the wall (and attached to the door near the top & bottom) would keep the tracks out of sight, or at least off the floor & ceiling.

Another option is an accordion door, which personally I don't care for. We only have one door in the bus (bathroom) so I was able to nearly sidestep the issue completely!

Re: Pocket doors

Bi fold doors. don't they also have a track.

I want to see if we could collectively come to the conclusion if they are feasible or not. And if they are for a how too guide to be formed. I still think a pocket door is good idea for my bus.

Can they be installed with just a bottom track?

Re: Pocket doors

The bifold doors on my closet only use a top track. Yes, it needs to be level, but the roofline in the center of my bus is actually relatively flat. I bet a well carved 2x2 could make up the difference to make a level track mount with minimal headroom loss.

Re: Pocket doors

you guys are overlooking a key problem with the pocket doors in a bus. Rattles! My inlaws new fifth wheel has a couple pocket doors that work well, but if you grab them and shake them they will rattle. No big deal in a trailer because noone is in it when it's moving.
