No, I've never been to Atlantic City. There is a large casino 20 minutes from my door which I utilize for its international buffet occasionally, and I live in the boonies. Gambling was bad enough when it was actually a game of chance. Now the casinos program the payback rate.

As you say, your state has all form of taxes and is still in debt. Money, money, who's got the money?

There's a lot of room for conspiracy theories here.

WA tags are calculated differently than OR tags. It's the WA people that falsely register for OR tags, because it's cheaper, that usually get in trouble for using an OR address. WA tags are fairly expensive as they are based on the value of your vehicle. I find that strange since they also have sales tax.

ORs tax base is from real estate. Tags are cheap here but property taxes are way up there. WA doesn't have property tax since they have sales tax.

Being mathematically challenged I'd agree to a little standardization on taxes between states. Flat tax anyone?
You sure about WA not having property taxes? I thought AK was the only one with no property taxes on land. I know WA has no state income tax. And OR has no sales tax. so, live in WA and shop in OR.

And what is the value of a old school bus?

SC has property taxes on vehicles based on value (highest in the country on vehicles). They also have an income tax as well as sales tax.

30th is better than 20 others. Try that with SC. The education motto is "Thank god for MS."

FL's lottery money does go to the schools. The problem is the lottery and the money prior to the lottery was supposed to go to education. As soon as the lottery passed and the money started coming in, the existing funds were redirected as a state slush fund. GA set up the Hope Scholarship after seeing what FL did with their lottery. Go to HS for the last 2 yrs, get a B average or better and you get a free 2 yr degree.

My mom was a career teacher. Started in FL, retired in GA. If you've got a few days to kill, ask her about No Child Left Behind.

I guess it must be true. The casinos just hand out money. No wonder I never got rich.
You gotta play to win. Someone is going to. When it gets to $300M or so and I have a couple of bucks, I buy a ticket.

Therein lies the problem. You've got to pay to play. I don't gamble. Oddly I do have quite good luck at poker.

A couple of bucks here or there isn't going to break the bank so why not? I'd probably do better at poker tho. I've only had one winning ticket and it was for the price of the ticket.

On day I'll use my powerful psychic abilities to win the lottery. The dream lives on.

Actually I used to buy tickets now and then but my wife would always take them. She must have searched my wallet frequently. I quit both of them.

I took a couple of ed courses a couple of semesters ago. One was a diversity in education, the other a teaching special needs course. Both professors, one a retired teacher turned super, the other a Special Needs HS teacher, utterly loathed NCLB.

Fully endorse quitting the wife.

Mine was for convenience. She got pissed as hell when I first mentioned getting a divorce then not 2 minutes later she let it slip that she had already seen a lawyer. So, you're pissed at me because you were thinking the same only your lawyer told you it was best to stick around?!? How does that kind of logic work? As luck would have it, I was told the day after that I was getting laid off. If I ever find Murphy, I'm punching him in the dick hole. Stuck around another year marking time and then split. She was pissed again because I didn't stick around to pay down the mortgage. Um, bills are the reason we should stay together? Some more logic there that I don't quite grasp. Upside down on the house but I was wiling to let her live in it and pay the mortgage for 2 yrs. Was also paying on her car. Then she got greedy and wanted more. She said "it's called negotiation." That was after almost a year of paying the mortgage, her car, and my rent. Told her when my lease is up she could either pay $800 of mortgage per month or I was moving back in. The mortgage is $2000; I split it 60/40 based on out incomes. I don't know how her lawyer passed English 101 much less law school. She moved out. Now she pays $1000 rent for a stupid townhouse, she's still on the mortgage (can't get a loan) and she's paying for her car. THAT'S NEGOTIATION!!

Mom started in general elementary. Always worked at schools that were "disadvantaged". She worked at the shittiest of schools. When the crack babies became of age, she ended up with them. She went back to school for the special needs and got her Master's. She needed her career with teen mild to medium retarded kids. One was bad enough to be in diapers. I like she prefers the little kids but she loved it all. Mostly because the schools didn't want to deal with the special needs kids so they left her alone.
