Water Pump Help

So i just bought my first skoolie, got it from Austin, TX to Santa Cruz, CA and was about to go over the pass to make it home to San Fran when I started leaking lots of coolant and water on a little box below the engine. I'm guessing its the water pump thats busted, its leaking out of the crevice where the box connects to the engine.

Anyone know what kind of pump i need for a 1990 GMC 366 Carb Automatic Gasser with a Ward body? And what kind of pain in the ass is this to replace? Worth hiring some shifty mechanic to do it?

i'm guessing its like a 50$ pump and a mechanic will probably want $150 or so, i have a place to park the bus in santa cruz which is about a 10 minute drive, can i just keep it full of water and drive it back there without blowing my engine and have some of my more mechanically inclined friends to fix it?

your guesses are probably pretty good, might be a bit cheaper, typical chevy water pump lots of them available, the pump itself is very easy to change but how much stuff will have to come off of the front of the motor first is the kicker and varies a lot from vehicle to vehicle

Well I'm having no luck finding any information about a replacement pump. We're going to try replace the gasket on the pump and hope that fixes it but if its a water pump we need have to try order a new one and everyone we call has no idea what the part we need is. They're asking if we know of any other vehicles that have a gmc 366 in it and we're having no luck finding one, if anyone could help us in this regard we'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm fairly certain the waterpump is the same as any other big block Chevy (396, 402, 427, 454, etc). I know the thermostat housing is a lot different, but I don't *think* the pump is. Do the project yourself and save the coin. Waterpumps don't get much easier than on Chevy V-8's.

remove the old waterpump from your engine and take that with you to the parts store so you can compare it to the new waterpump.
