What does this black knob do?

What is this knob for? Top right of photo. Bus specs are under my name.

I thought maybe a fuel cutout, but that's not it. For a bit I thought it was somehow tied to the brakes/air system...not anymore. I can press it in to the stop, but not without effort. It pushes right back into the position you see it in now. If I twist it, it springs back into place as well. I'm afraid to pull, push, or twist any harder in fear of breaking something.

Go ahead, mess with me...I know I should know what it does. I forgot about it until now & can't investigate on my own at the moment. Google failed me.

Definetly an after market cable and the only way to truly know is to chase/track the cable to what it actually controls?
I know that's no help but any mechanic could have bypassed anything with an after market cable, switch or tie wire and by pictures we can only guess

Maybe through that hole thats in the photo? I wondered if it was a vent sort of like vehicles back in the day, but ruled it out because there doesn’t seem to be anymore than one position. The heck with work...gonna go fiddle some more. Does your bus have the same knob? If so, does it open and close easily?

Hmmm...thanks for the response Jolly. Going to go tinker, maybe it’s a vent like Shag says.

It's BRAKES, not breaks. BRAKES stop the vehicle.

A vent it is. I put a my weight behind it and worked it back and forth, it's a little more user friendly now. Fortunately it is a little windy out so I could tell that it is working. Thank you sir.

Breaks are for coffee and/or beer.

Agreed.

I just noticed you are from Billings. I love that area, my father is from Red Lodge. Spent lots of time on that mountain back in the 1900's. Much fun. Hope to take our bus back there someday.

Yep.

It's a vent. It opens the vent at the front of the bus that lets outside air into the footwell.

They seize.

Glad you figured it out. On mine, that's how you turn the bus on and off.

Yes! that's a great idea...I want to install one of those somewhere on the dash, just as a gimmick. I've got an old chain saw that I can sacrifice. The kids will love it.

first thought was a choke like I had in my 1975 Chevy pickup but then I looked at your bio and figured that was not possible. Vent. that is cool, glad you got it figured out.

Yes mine has the same thing and it is embossed with vent on it. And no it does not work. Might have to reach into my inner Hulk and put the smack down on it. Would be nice to have a breeze on the tootsies while careening down the black top at a Skoolie's blistering pace.

I busted up my knuckles a bit when I yanked and shoved. It does open and close now, but still not with much ease. There is also not an audible "click" or "thump" indicating something happened. I only figured it out because it was breezy outside.

Start dripping light oil or cable lube into the sheath whenever you can, it will get easier to move
