FWIW -

My advice - as somebody who is now an expert at amateurish paint jobs...would be to get a decent quality HVLP spray gun, a good sized compressor, and that qt-sized air line water trap thingy from Harbor Freight. You need a consistent, steady supply of nice dry air.

Then crack a beer, and watch a whole bunch of YouTube videos on painting and spray gun setup. Anybody can do this. It's just to figure out how...

Also - prep is key; You gotta scrub the thing down with Simple Green, then tape everything off, then scuff the whole thing with a red scotch-brite pad, then wipe the whole thing down with paint thinner. Nothing less, or the **** will blow off in the wind.

Roger the prep. The number one cause of people blaming "bad paint".

Does anyone have any info regarding Ace Rust Stop vs Rustolium?

I read somewhere that the Ace product can be color matched. I like the idea of picking a color and having the paint mixed to my spec instead of picking from a limited selection or trying to McGyver my own color.

Thanks.

They're the same product for all intents and purposes. Both can be color matched.

Cool!

Where can I find Rustolium tint base? I have not seen it in stores, online sellers or on Rustolium's website?

Thanks.

Maybe the Ace stuff then, I've heard of folks having rustoleum custom mixed, but now that I think about it and look around the web I think you're right.

I primed my stainless with DTM Wash primer, primed the steel with kembond HS, now I’m top coating with Pro Industrial Acrylic. Spraying with HVLP Gun. Will use Pro Industrial Acrylic for trimming out as well.
