Hello All, I played with the bus all day today and made some progress on the fuel filler for the new gas tank I installed for the genny. I had saved the original gas filler from my '71 Suburban when I put an electric release gas door on it. The filler tube ended up on my TOAD and now the sheet metal part is on the bus (I found a replacement filler pipe in the local Pick-A-Part from a '73 Chevy PU). I like

Just in case someone is looking at this for ideas--an easier solution for a gas cap--one off a CJ Jeep. Its a plastic piece that recesses in with the filler neck at a good angle. You only need to cut a square(ish) hole. I think I had mine done+ installed in 10 minutes.

Hey Jack --- you are obviously making the best use of any Holiday free time! As always...lookin' good and inspiring. You have me tinkering with hanging my genny in a slideout under the rear as opposed to sitting out back on the deck. It would certainly make loading a trail bike on there a whole lot easier.

Hello All, HAPPY NEW YEAR! I seem to be jumping from one project to another. Today I started working on the pneumatic door mechanism because I need to know where its parts go before I can hang anymore under body tanks etc.

A word of warning: this is a really long winded report--so pack a lunch

This particular style door is called a parallelogram plug door because its movement scribes a parallelogram and it closes like a cork in a bottle. I found the parts in a local junk yard (on a burned airport shuttle) img][b/]

WOW! The use of coat hangers and paint sticks to make a model is genius.

The closest I ever got to that level was by making cardboard mock-ups of upper cabinets for my bus.

I have same type of doors on my bus; they are two of them and clam shell together opening and closing..
The electric linear actuator is being a real pain in the butt and finicky; might yank it and go to air. I am also looking at the wiring and thinking about a remote to open or close them.
I have been thinking of fusing them together and modding the hinge so I can just open it on one side and then close it. It would give me a better seal on the door to keep the AC cool air in.
I've started more work on the bus after scoring a complete "kitchen" cabinets, sink, drop in electric stove top - won't be using that and a LARGE hanging microwave- also won't be using that.
I figure the 200 I paid for everything could get allot of it back in selling the microwave Nice Kenmore, stove top and maybe the counters I don't use.
I have installed mostly the 10,000 BTU AC in the bus back middle window. I have left the bus AC in place so I can use that when the bus is moving; heck the back one is rated at 72,000 BTU's. Front I don't know yet.
Had a real rough 2012 broke my foot bad and took alllooonnnggg time to heal; finally did and then found I had a tumor and Doc cut a big hole in me to remove it. Great news it was benign and have recovered allot. Wife is hiding from me now with all the energy I have now..

Thanks All for the kind words. Bullwhacker007--You need to make a new years resolution NOT to break any more bones! I've been through the broken foot (and ankle) thing and it was no fun.

Unless you just want a pneumatic door, I think I'd repair the L/A you have. With air you will need a tank and a pump which just means more stuff to keep fixed. I do like the idea of a single piece door, however.

As to Photobucket, They seem to be pushing a new format. I'm trying to learn how to use it but after numerous failed attempts they ask if I want to go back to the original format and let me slide. They assure me I'll "love it" once I get it figured out .

I spent New Years day playing with the air door and have nothing to show for it other than a schematic for its installation and a good understanding of how a pneumatic solenoid switch actually works . Oh well, slow work takes time I guess.

Hey Tango, I can get away with the coat hangers but cut up one steel pie pan for a quick patch and LOOK OUT!

I'm feeling very special tonight--as in WE HAVE A WINNER! I've GOT to be the first of us bus nuts to end up in urgent care this year! I know, way to go Jack. Stupid (pardon the French) mfsb screwdriver handle broke off while I was gently prying on a bracket attached to the shuttle bus door I am stripping. The pos went immediately into my hand causing me to use my most foul language followed by more foul language while the stiches were going in. Damn! Jack
