I'm always impressed by you metal worker types. I'm more a wood guy and I look at metal forming as magic. Those are some serious jacks!
What is that flat squareish thing attached to the right-side frame rail with a clipped corner and a white label on it in pictures 5 & 7?

'49, WOW, I can see it now! A Rocket 88 emblem on the hood, kids hair being sucked out the windows by the speed venturi, flames pouring out of the hood vents----and you driving.. When do we start?!

Hey Tango, I doubt I could teach you anything--I've seen your work. When I get the '35 done I'd love to run it to Texas and compare notes.

Re: 1935 Chevy school bus
Roach711, You've got sharp eyes to see that thing. It is the ABS brake computer. This old girl had mechanical brakes with a vacuum assist with a valve mounted to the steering column to modulate it's action. I guess that a 4 spd tranny, a 2 spd rear end and a 60 hp motor didn't keep the driver in panic mode so they added vacuum assist to the brakes to up the stress level a little I'm way too lazy for all that!

Re: 1935 Chevy school bus
Hi Tango, Beverages? OOh! I'll have to work extra hard now I got the steering column and the brake booster fabricated this weekend. All I had to do was sort of make a mirror image of the original part and lop off some redundant brackets. Tomorrow I will mock up my handy work and see if it still makes sense Thanks for the invite and we'll take you up on it as soon as I get the thing finished enough to use--probably the better part of a year as slow work takes time!?!

Re: 1935 Chevy school bus
I have a feeling that I will have to do some serious re-routing of my steering as well. It appears you did a great job on that one, hope mine turns out as well. What wheel/shaft did you use and did it require any extra hardware?

$35.00!!!! Thats what I call a bargain! Been looking for some nice tan leather seats of the Yonder, already have two tan leather third row suburban seats to use for the dinette, those are from the fine, "Hey, you want this?" collection.

Re: 1935 Chevy school bus
Hey Trunt --- haven't even started thinking about upgrading the steering yet. For now, it's original, but hope to find a reasonable power steering set up that I can mod in without too much hassle. The 4BT Cummins has the necessary pump, I just need to find a column and gear that will fit/work and can be routed around the new engine.
