I finally got my crazy propane tank filled. I took it to a place that does forklift and home tanks. There was no questions asked except "I've never seen anything like this what does it go to?" and no new valves were needed.

Doesn't look much different than any of the other horizontal tanks I used to fill at work. Does that tank allow you to fill using either liquid or vapor? Also....just out of curiousity...does the gauge work? I don't think I ever filled one where the gauge worked. Instead we just cracked open the air bleeder...when propane came out of that you knew it was full.

Yep the guage does work but the guy used to the bleeder to figure out it it was full, except I think he really overfilled it since he had it tilted about 30 degree when filling it so the bleader would be much higher that it is supposed to be.
I don't know about the vapor and liquid question but the guage shows a meter for both propane and butane on it.

i used a propane tank from a forktruck as a veggie oil tank for my mercedes....When i took it apart, i found that the guage worked using a magnet. There was no physical contact between the float inside and the guage outside. Of coarse this would only work on an alluminum (or other non-ferrous metal) tank.

Re: 1972 IH Ward Conversion
I am finally getting around to fixing the main safety and mechanical concerns I have had with my bus. I am getting the radiator recored, I broke it putting on an electric fan years ago but patched it, and I am having all of the brake cylinders replaced. The front right cylinder has been leaking more and more lately. While I am at it I am also getting a new band fit to the parking brake.
This is the first time I have ever seen the rear brakes on my bus and I can't believe how big they are. Apparently trucks are the opposite of cars in that the rear brakes on the truck do the most work. I guess that is where all the load and traction is on trucks so that makes sense.

Re: 1972 IH Ward Conversion
I am finally finishing up the exterior panels that I started years ago but never finished!
The lower rear window is covered now, I have filled the space between the windows and my new panels with insulating foam. I put construction adhesive on the back sides of the panels to keep them from vibrating and gathering water.

Re: 1972 IH Ward Conversion
It is amazing that the temporary stuff I did back in 2002 has lasted this long. I finally finished the permanent panel for my air conditioning going from what you see here from 2002 to the bottom picture today. Look back in this topic to see how it works. The top vent sucks in the air for the air conditioner and it blows out the hot air out the bottom.

Steve, your rear windows look good. Also, thanks for the A/C idea. I am using it now and it's working great.

Re: 1972 IH Ward Conversion
I got my wipers at Napa. For certain bus parts I go around to junk yards and get them pulled off other buses. The engines in our buses are the industrial version that the International Scout uses and all the parts are available from International parts dealers and even most auto parts stores. You can even order a 345 crate engine from some local parts stores.

Re: 1972 IH Ward Conversion
I put in a cheap $30 1000 Watt circulation heater in as my water heater so that I can have heated water from my sink up front.

Re: 1972 IH Ward Conversion
I upgraded my trailer hookup from the six pin to the seven pin so that I can pull the car hauler around. A converter box had to be put in to make the brake lights come on since they are separate from the turn signals.

Re: 1972 IH Ward Conversion
Dan brought over one of the wheel covers from his bus to see if they would work on mine. They do! I ordered a set today and will have them on soon.

Re: 1972 IH Ward Conversion
They are chromed stainless steel, very nice you have to look close to see they are covers. They are $200 for each set of two, I will take pictures of how they work when I put them on you can put them on any truck.
Download their catalog because you can't find the kind we are using on the website without searching for the part numbers.
You get them here: http://www.jaeeagle.com/

Re: 1972 IH Ward Conversion
It heats up very quickly and my plan is to add a tank to it later. I bought it at the local farm supply store.

Re: 1972 IH Ward Conversion
I looked on tractor supply's website and didn't find it, is this similar?
http://cgi.ebay.com/KATS-12100-1000-WAT ... 08002r5736
Does it heat water as it passes through to the sink, or does it need to circulate through a few times? Seems this would be a perfect tankless water heater. Plus at 1,000 watts it should run off my 1850 watt geni. Could even wire it into my 110V electric circuit and just flip a light switch when I want hot water. I'm excited about this.
