Re: 1979 Chevrolet Bus

I have ordered the Blue Skin Membrane that Nat suggested. I also ordered a tube of sealer the same kind of stuff only in a caulk tube. I will post pics when it gets here.

Ditto and echo many of the above concerns. I had a bunch of bolt holes in my otherwise solid floor and I welded and ground them all to make sure nothing would come up from below. Better to take some time now and do it right. Once the whole interior is in...fixing holes in the floor is costly and a bit more of a challenge.

Re: 1979 Chevrolet Bus

I actually drilled a few 1/2" holes in and around the area where my water and grey water tanks are (they are inside the bus) and then counter sunk the hole by whacking the ball of a ball pein hammer in the hole with another hammer. I glued fiberglass screen over the holes to keep the critters out. I am hopeful that if my tanks start to leak I'll at least have a heads up from the drips of water under the bus and be able to fix things before my floor is ruined. I suppose I should be shaking in my boots over the possibility of CO poisoning from the exhaust---but I'm not.

Re: 1979 Chevrolet Bus

Other than the wheel well rust so far the floor looks pretty good, but I have only taken up 2 sheets of plywood subfloor.

Re: 1979 Chevrolet Bus

I am needing all the suggestions I can get about how to repair the floor rust-out behind the wheel well. Keep in mind I have an Arc Welder only, no Wire Welder. All opinions will be appreciated.

Sheet metal and pop rivets. Use sealer around the edges.

And that is the exact reason I didn't pull up my floor and "do it right". I'm flat out scared to know what's down there. If I can't see it the problem doesn't exist ..... right ?

Up towards the front of the floor between the drivers seat and wheel wells I pulled up the old carpet, and the plywood is totally rotten, and wet after the 2 inches of rain we just got. I guess Im going to have to take down the ceiling skin because Im guessing there is a leak somewhere.
