1982 Carpenter
Hello,
Just took possession of my 1982 Carpenter school bus. Right around 32' interior, bought it for $1,000 from a local boy scout troop where it was purchased and maintained by the local retired shop teacher. Gas engine, 61K original miles. Got the seats yanked out and on track to have it converted over the next few months. Runs great, new air brake system and new'ish tires.
Love the site. Will have many question moving forward.

Hey! WELCOME!
That is VERY similar to my first bus. Ford gasser from the early 80's.
I LOVE hearing about folks getting good deals on buses. A thousand was about as much as they ever cost back in the day. Now they are becoming more expensive- like shipping containers.
It has good tires, new brakes, and it runs good enough to get you home? For a thousand? Great deal!!

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I am quickly falling head over heels in love with this bus. Almost ready to start paneling the roof.

What exactly do you mean? The inside, or outside?

The inside. Should have said ceiling.
I am doing the conversion in phases, you know, due to lack of budget. Liveable by April is the mantra.

Ha......Seems I'm in the same club as you guys! The build this as cheaply and economically as possible CLUB! I'm shooting for the summer of 2016 to have my bus livable and hopefully very near finished! I'm really over these mortgage payments!!
I finally caught a break in the weather today to work on the bus. FEELS GREAT!! ;)

In the process of loading photos. The bus has less than 32,000 miles. V6 Diesel.

It is an Inland 6 with less than 32,000 miles. Great Shape. Looking for manuals. Going to convert it with a military theme.

Sweet. I like the "other" buses. Carpenters, Wards, Waynes...

Carpenters are awesome--mine had the most headroom of a stock schoolie I've ever seen.
I will say their buses tended to rust easier than others and they did have recalls regarding their roof-bracing techniques, so those are things to look for. I love their windshield openings--classy.
