Gear vendor units are NOT made for bus size application's.

They are made for LDT, meaning Light Duty Truck.

Any bus other that crappy little one ton cut away's are MDT, Medium Duty Trucks and rear engine buses are HDT, Heavy Duty Trucks.

This false info needs to stop. Your giving people that don't know any better false hope.

No, is is giving it to you strait up and to the point.

The repetitive dumb questions give us senior members a head ache.

Lean to press the "Search" button as often as you press the "Post" button, and all will be well.

For those who are interested I ended up getting a brown-lipe 6231A which is a manual divorced auxiliary three speed, the way you select gear ranges on the fly is by hitting an appropriate shift speed, selecting neutral on your auto in my case an AT545 And while in neutral shift your brown-lipe, then put your Allison back into drive. the overdrive is only safe to use on relatively flat ground in the auto trannies top gear or third, due to the multiplied torque. The only problem here is now that you've dropped rpms the torque converter in the Allison won't lock up at too low a speed..and you can have slippage. There are solutions to that problem though.

Gear ratios in the brownie are 1.25-1 1-1. .60-1. And I'm running 5.57s in the rear

The 545 doesnt lock up!
If this works, I would love to hear how it goes.
Sounds too good to be true!

Charles_M you're right it doesn't lock up what I mean is that at lower speeds/gears or pulling grades with the overdrive engaged will burn up torque converters. @crazycal I'm not going to trade insults on the internet, if you don't wish to discuss the mechanical aspects of this kindly keep your words to yourself, it's important to act like a person, even on the internet

There was no insult. I said you've got it covered. So that means everyone trying to give you advice is wasting their time. It's that simple. If you want to insult me go ahead.

Do you even know how to drive a AT 545 transmission without blowing it up?

What RPM do you need to keep the bands from slipping and burning up the trans?

When you can answer this, then you might be ready to install that browny box.

My money says you will blow that AT 545 on your first trip more than 100 miles after installing the box.

You really should have leaned how to search and listen to Good Advice beforebuying something that will do you no good at all.

If you had a standard transmission, but wanted a overdrive, the browny box may have worked. However, good luck with the AT545 in front of it.

Also the browny box you have found was never made to spin as fast as your going to spin it. They were made for MDT and HDT trucks a few decades ago when top speed was 45 to 50mh tops.

Good luck.

Tranmission Problem? - TheDieselGarage.com

These guys have some interesting things to say so does a guy called allisonman on an rv forum. Any way having felt thoroughly unwelcome from the outset, (didn't know I was joining a club, thought I was seeking mechanical advice, which some of you finally offered) I'll stop seeking the advice of you lot... All the guys at my local transmission/driveline shop think the project is really cool and are excited about it, I am too, I hope everyone is having fun out there. I feel most comfortable with my rpms around 2400-2800 for highway crusing even though I could push it further, hence the overdrive. I've already driven the bus almost 1000 miles with the stock power/drivetrain since I bought it. Haven't blown it yet, thank you for wishing me the best. Also, I started this as a separate thread so that people who were interested could find it and add info, you didn't have to post anything if you just wanted to try to make me feel small. Thank you, that is all

Your welcome.

Glad to see your leaning how to search.

I don't see any other thread you have started here. You must mean you started one elsewhere.

I never did see any pics in this thread. Just a bunch of text. So really, none of it really happened.

I will say this. That 7.3 is a better match for that At545 than the 5.9 Cummins would have been.

The 7.3 will handle the RPM. The Cummins hate that RPM. Torque curve ends at 1600rpm.

For the record, I would never own a 7.3, and just sold the last AT545 I will ever own.

Big Cummins 8.3 and MD3060 for me.

Good for you. This thread , I started it as separate from anything so that people people could add to it if they had an idea of how to achieve my goal, not so closed minded could tell me how dumb I am, thanks anyway though. I didn't start it so that a bunch of strangers could
Tell me what they think only style choices with my bus either, I only want mechanical input on different methods to achieve l

I'm on my phone and at work, so I'll keep this short. I'm glad you started a thread, and hope you will keep it going. I would like to see the outcome right or wrong. The biggest part of life is taking chances and learning from them... FYI my bus WILL run 80 mph. Doesn't mean u SHOULD though. Haters Goin to hate.

Same, I want to see right or wrong.

We are just being hard on you because your lack of pics, searching, and post happy ways.

Post pics and video.

That video you linked shows a mess. Like I said before, with a standard trans, you can depress the clutch to stop the input from the engine before shifting the browny box. With a auto, you can't, and therefore will always be grinding gears in the browny box.

Grinding gears will rune them in short time.

There are massive right ups on pirate 4x4 about duel transmissions. Spider started the best thread explaining his trial and error.
