Re: 1990 International-14" Roof Lift.

Bunk beds.

I planned to use the bottom bunk to cover the passenger side wheel well and to hide my House batteries. As with everything else in the bus I have no idea what it's going to look like until I build it. Here is how the lower bunk turned out:

The disappearing wheel well.

Then a 4" deep storage tray.

The house Battery box is 28"X32" by 13" tall.

Lower bunk framed, the lid lifts up for easy access.

Re: 1990 International-14" Roof Lift.

I also wanted some storage space incorporated into the top bunk.

Top bunk storage 27”X77”X6” deep.

Rail.

Mattress pad support lifts up.

How they turned out minus some trim.

Re: 1990 International-14" Roof Lift.

The plan is to paint the ceiling, cabinets and walls that are covered with ply with an off-white semi gloss enamel. That will clean up well and add a ton of interior light. The knotty pine will get clear acrylic polyurethane. I am even considering painting the off-white first then spraying the interior with polyurethane, even the white painted areas.

Re: 1990 International-14" Roof Lift.

Man Tim...the sun visor. I really like the idea of having one, I was thinking of fabricating it myself out of 20-gauge sheet metal but by the time the idea hit me I think it was to late. I already had the pine on inside and I think I would of needed the strength of bolting into steel supports through the sheet metal skin. At this point I think the visor idea may be shot down but I sure think it would look good. I may go ahead and build one next year if the bug bites and just weld it on, it would go along ways towards breaking up that extra space above the windshield. I don't have the skills to fabricate more then just straight angles, which would look good but what I really think would look great is a sun visor that kind of mimicked the old '50s Chevy visors.

Re: 1990 International-14" Roof Lift.

I am ready to paint the roof tomorrow and I have picked up 2 gallons of Sherwin Williams brand Industrial and Marine paint.

The color is Extra White.

Ceramic beads by 3M will be mixed into the paint to form a reflective insulating heat barrier.

The bus is masked off and ready to go tomorrow morning.

Re: 1990 International-14" Roof Lift.

I got the first coat on the roof Saturday, it took about 1 1/2 gallons but I could not stop the tip on my airless from giving me trouble so it took a bit more paint then it should have. I am going to give it three or four days to cure, then hit some rough spots with a jitterbug and some 220 and spray a finish coat on the roof. I picked up another gallon of paint today and a new tip for my spray rig. I plan to spray the finish coat on it this coming Saturday. The fresh paint on the roof and some bondo work on the front and rear caps has made a huge difference in the bus's appearance. I will post a few pics. when I get the roof finished.

Re: 1990 International-14" Roof Lift.

Well it took me a couple of weeks due to rain and weather but I was able to get the finish coat on the roof yesterday.

What a difference the bright white paint and 3M glass bead additive has made. When the roof was the original yellow color during the warm part of the day the roof metal was hot to the touch. Now the roof metal stays cool to the touch all day long. I have been monitoring the interior temperature and so far I have seen a 10 degree drop during the hottest part of the day. I look forward to next summer when I get the main light gray color on the rest of the bus, I plan to mix in the 3M additive with the main color as well.

Re: 1990 International-14" Roof Lift.

I have been a bit delinquent with my posts lately but I am pleased to say that I have my black tank installed and plumbed, vented through the roof and the shower pan (tub) and toilet drains are both in. I am completing the drain plumbing this week (grey water only drain) and also have the galley sink drain (roughed in only) until I purchase the sink itself. The next project (s) are purchasing and installing a macerateor and updating my bus blog.

The tank was built for a pickup and camper and it has a 55-gallon capacity. The photo of it under the bus has it laying on it's side, I was just fitting it between the frame rails. The photo of the tank on the ground behind the bus has it in it's proper attitude. I built a plywood box for it to rest in. The box will reinforce the tank, protect it from road debris and it made it real easy to mount. I reused 2-pieces of the 3/4" all-thread I had left over from my roof raise and I have the plywood box drilled and bolted through the Uni-Strut in all four corners.

I purchased the tank off of Ebay with a winning bid of $60.00 the shipping ran another $140.00! However it was so close to the capacity and size I wanted that I finally pulled the trigger on it after a month of looking for a tank. The only other tank I found that I really liked was from Plastic-Mart at $375.00 delivered. There is a guy on Ebay that regularly has 36-gallon tanks priced real reasonably but I just could not find a way I was happy with to mount two of them.
-------------------------------------------------

Head on of the tank.

I had an extra sleeping pad I cut up and used to pad the tank all the way around.

Installed.
