1991 Carpenter Cadet Build Out

Purchased this from a local fire department. 6.2L diesel with 47,000 miles.
I thought it would be a good purchase and probably maintained well.
Getting there with the conversion!!!

Cool bus. We are using metal roofing in our build too.

Great shape, no rust.

Have to love fire department vehicle's.

Hey! nice job so far, it looks as if you are using recycled denim insulation. I had planned on using that too but only for walls and ceiling. If you could just describe briefly how it went while you worked with it, and if there's a noticeable difference. I did a price quote myself from local hardware stores (home depot, menards) and it would cost around $400. eager to kinda know how much you spent and the size of your bus so i could compare it. When you get time, thanks.

I only insulated below the windows and the floor. I think the denim insulation was $45 each bundle, and it took almost two full bundles.....$90.

I'm looking to insulate my skoolie as well. That's good information. Does it really matter what type of insulation is used?

I would look at cost and R value. I went the denim insulation route because it was easy on the lungs, came in a compact bundle that I could transport in my car (because I don't have the bus insured, yet), and has a high R value...

That's an interesting comment. I don't think I have ever heard anyone refer to a 6.2 that way.

Ever had a GM 6.2L? I had 4 of them in my military trucks. TOUGH engine. LOVE 'em. Easy to maintain, easy to hot-rod. Plenty of torque if not overloaded. Had the turbo 400 tranny behind 'em. Solid combination. Still have that set up in my M1031. For a 9K pound truck it gets about 15 m.p.g.

I do have them in 2 vehicles. One is a 1983 3+3 Chevy Crew and the second is 1990 something Chevy school bus. I have not started either yet.

Here is another update. I have added a few screens on the inside of the windows, floor is basically finished. I just need to add in the coach 8d battery and wiring.
