Re: 1997 AmTran International DT466
I am back home. It was a good trip, just a little exhausting with the heat. I really like the size of the bus. I measured it. As best as I can tell, it's 30 feet long. Maybe 6 inches longer. Kinda hard to measure by yourself.
The 545 definitely has to go. I could not make it up the hill. It's pretty steep so I drove around to the back side and got up but barely. I think the trans is just tired. When the trans is replaced in the future, I am going to replace it with a 653. Basically a 643 with a granny low. I have an air leak at the back of the air tank from some valve looking device. That will have to be fixed first. Then shocks. They're not expensive.
If you have any questions about the trip, ask away.

Re: 1997 AmTran International DT466
Congrats, Congrats, Congrats
Glad to hear you made it HOME..... I know it was one "trip from Hell" in the heat and no AC. but you made it.
Now to start on the conversion, repairs & changes to "Da Bus"...
I don't know if you have read the story (Living Life on a Yeller Bus) link ... http://www.twistedknotwoodshop.com/moving.htm
but I think you could made one very similar to his about your trip home from TN.
Rest up, then fest up .... we'd love to hear the rest of the story....
Glad I got to meet you while you where here... Maybe one day we'll cross paths again, until then Happy Trails....

LOL, I hope you aren't hoping for a literary masterpiece. I will recap my trip but will need to do it from a computer. It is too difficult on the iPad.

Thank you for your help. It was good to meet another forum member. Our paths will meet again, either in the west or if I head back in that direction. Tennessee looks like a nice state to explore.

That's more than a recliner, It's a bedroom too.... Sleeps a lot easier than the floor I bet.
Good to see some updates on the bus.
I know you're happy to have her home and to get started on "DaBus".
Keep us posted...

Yay AmTran! Your bus sure looks nice. And bonus for the wheel chair lift in the back. Here's wishing you well with the customization.

Thanks. My conversion is going to be real simple so I can get my plates. After that I can make improvements as I go.
Your bus is looking real good. I was looking at some of your blog posts. It seems like you are in a hurry. Are you trying to get it ready for a trip?

Thanks crazycal. Yep, I'm trying to get ready in time for Labor Day. I originally wanted to use it for Burning Man for the first time, but didn't get tickets this year. Which turns out to be for the best since it's taking longer than expected to "finish". And like others have said, there is no true "finish", just "good enough".

Re: 1997 AmTran International DT466
I've heard of burning man and seen it on tv, looks like a great big woodstock in the desert, didn't think it would require tickets though, looks like a crowd that wouldn't necessarily be the capitalist type. Looks like a whole lotta fun
