So I went with a climateright ac /heater for the bus Felt it was a better buy and hopefully less headaches than a roof mount and installing a separate heater unit. It also only draws 1280 watts cooling so I can run it off the inverter. It draws 1420 watts on heat. It works very well so far.
I used E30 transmission mounts to mount it on its frame. Hip clipped it at the top and will put in two strut stays at the outside of the frame to floor supports. It weighs a 110 pounds so my frame may look over kill. Still need to make a diverter and shield for the front.

Wasn't really excited about doing a total gut. The floors were in great shape and showed dry no reading of moisture same for the insulation. Knowing how the interior was going to get done I wanted the metal roof skin.

I wanted the plastic left on as I didn't want to lose or have a lot of discoloured so rather than re wrap it I figured it would be easier to just slug it out.

So progress will commence. The race season is over.

Been busy on it when I have had spare moments throughout the summer just not been keeping up with posts here.

Looking good. How many BTU is your heater/ac unit good for?

10000 btu for 180 square foot it is a bit overkill. On. 95 degree day interior temp of 108degrees the unit cooled it down to about 80 degrees in about 45 minutes.

Have any details on the ceiling? I've been trying to figure out what I want to do and that looks pretty slick.

Lol.. I did the same. Saved it to my desktop and flipped it around so I could see. Looks like odd cuts of 1/4" ply made to look like the old wooden shingles. Would love to see how it was laid out and such.

Yah I left the original ceiling in on it the insulation was still intact and metal was not rusted or discoloured from leaks we pulled the panel down around the escape hatch to check on the overall condition in that area.
Lined the original steel panels with a foil faced 1/2" "blue jean recycled " insulation. I have used that insulation on other projects over the years and have had great success with sound deadening and an improvement in thermal barrier.
Is it as good as other stuff no but it helps immensely. I left air gaps to let the roof breathe.
The cedar shake is lowes off the shelf. I pre drilled it and drilled into the factory steel roof using sheet metal screws after a pilot hole was drilled.
You can just go in to the preferrated panel but it got dicey.
Placement of the screw and washer on the shingle made it bend to the ceiling out further on the thin area made it bend more all in the first two thirds of the shingle.
