Re: 2012... The Year of Renewal

Really nice looking roof deck........

Why did you leave the strobe light?

Oh, something to trip on so you can fall off the roof!

Happy landings.....
Looks great..

Because at this point, I'm too short on time to worry with the small stuff. There's so much I've learned to do since February when I started this whole thing... and now I'm roughly 7 weeks out from the trip... and I've still got a ton of things to learn how to do. Making a wiring mistake was something I didn't want to deal with right now. I can always go back after the trip and fix all the things I'm bypassing now. It's more important for this to be functional than complete.

I think you should put your mom's mailbox up there on the deck for a finishing touch and for air mail

Re: 2012... The Year of Renewal

I was wondering about the strobe light as well, but I like the ideal to make it safer for landings , (maybe it will guide smitty back here ) the deck looks great, keep up the good work, I know it seems that it will never end, it really never ends , but im sure you will be ready for your trip. Your lucky to have such great help.
keep going

The strobe might come in handy if your cruising around the ports, getting ready to load DaBus onto a ferry or container ship....never know where your journey will take you

Re: 2012... The Year of Renewal

Well, my baby has new shoes. SIX of them, to be exact! I'm still in sticker shock. The Peace-of-Mind will be worth every penny, though. And I shouldn't have to do this again for another 5 or 6 years (or more if I'm lucky).

In other news, I've installed the HWOD in the rear window. It's just roughed in for now while I work on other things. But here's where it will stay. All the propane exhaust will be vented outside. There is still a lot of tin-work to finish:
  • the metal will be installed behind it to isolate it from the bus wall, [/*:m:34npu696]
  • the exhaust has to be customized to fit the top of the unit, and [/*:m:34npu696]
  • the exterior has to be covered with metal just like the A/C window was done.[/*:m:34npu696]

And I'm working on covering the dog-house with an insulated platform to cut down on noise and heat. It is kinda a pain because of all the odd curved surfaces, but paper templates are wonderful things.
No pictures yet of what I've done so far, but it's shaping up nicely.

Tomorrow I go see a man about moving the tailpipe. I've given up on the fiberglass tank. It's too much of a learning curve and too important for me to mess up.
The good news is, if the pipe can't be easily relocated, then he said he'll fiberglass the tank for me. It's a win either way.
