Illinois RV Requirements:

A motor home, mini-motor home, or van camper displaying Recreational Vehicle (RV) license plates must contain at least four of the following six equipment items:
1) a cooking facility with an on-board fuel source
2) a gas or electric refrigerator
3) a toilet with exterior evacuation
4) a heating or air conditioning system with an on-board power or fuel source separate from the vehicle engine
5) a drinkable water supply system that includes at least a sink, a faucet, and a water tank with a an exterior service supply connection
6) a 110-15 volt electric power supply.

We will have #1,2,4 and 6.

Also the only vehicles in Illinois that can be school bus yellow are school buses used to pick-up/drop-off students. So we must paint it.

The ex-whiffs family lives in Peoria. I can't remember which side of the river. I think the opposite side of the distillery.

Cool bus... I haven't played paintball in years, need to dust off everything and take my boys out...

I like that you're building it simple because of it's intended use... I've built mine the way I have for the same reasons, it'll be used as our towing/camping rig when we go offroading...

Btw, if you want an idea of what OD green will look like on your bus, take a look at mine...

FINALLY!! A decent day on a weekend (although they are forecasting 1-5 inches of snow tomorrow) Got the things we needed out of the old bus (beds, stove, stereo, inverter, etc.) and started removing seats from the new one.

Wow. I am in love. What is the overall length? 40'? Do you mind saying how much you paid for it? I am trying to get an idea on prices, they seem to vary a lot.

Yep, 40 feet. Paid $3500 for it from a dealer.

Re: 502 Paintball Mobile Bunkhouse

More progress this weekend. Got more seats out. Somebody tell me, when they build buses do they put the seats in the body before they put the body on the frame? Some of the seat bolts were impossible to get to the nuts on the bottom for stuff (fuel tanks, transmission, etc.) in the way.

Oh, and we got one of the stopsigns off, you can see it on the floor in this shot.

Re: 502 Paintball Mobile Bunkhouse

When I purchased this bus, it came with a file folder full of the service records, etc. Included with that package was this drawing. These are the dimensions I based the plan drawings on.

Is there any other way to post the image with the measurements (we're looking at Thomas' around that year also, so I imagine they're all pretty similar. I clicked on it but all the numbers are still blurry.
Congrats on your progress!

She loosened the two screws for the little 'tabs' that hold the seat cusion down and tossed the seat cushions out the windows while I followed with the electric impact and a wrench and unbolted the side along the wall.
This all took less than an hour.
Then the 4" angle grinder came out and I grinded all the heads off the bolts on the floor.
That's what we did. In this bus, unlike the old one, the bolts that hold the seats to the floor sit in a recess in the foot of the seat. This makes the work with the grinder tougher and we ended up ruining the feet on some of the seats. The saving grace was the seats above the underbody storage, with those one son crawled into the storage bin and held the nuts, and the other zipped the bolts out with the impact gun. Those went quick.

Re: 502 Paintball Mobile Bunkhouse

Weekend Update:

The rest of the seats are out -- thanks to my youngest son.

Here's a pic of him grinding the screw heads off the metal strips down the aisle.

The other stop sign is off.

Here's the scars left from under the stop signs. Going to have to fix a little cancer here before paint.

We also took care of some small things. The radio antenna was broken, we replaced it. The factory stereo came out to be replaced with the aftermarket one out of our old bus. The passengers side windshield washer nozzle was broken, we replaced it. Now we need to clean the floor and get it ready for carpet.

Looking at most of the projects here, most of you remove the flooring and the plywood if there is any. I assume this is to get to the metal floor to fix whatever rust you may find. We are not going to that. We are on a tight schedule (must be done by the second week of June) and the floor is solid enough. Looking from the bottom there are a couple of spots around the rear wheels but we're not too worried.

I had my first paintball outing this weekend and I'm hooked! Now I'm haunting ebay for a few PB outfits to take up north with us to the camp. Paintball is WAY cheaper than shooting the real guns, and you get to constructively take out your pent-up frustrations on those who have ticked you off in the past.

Glad to have you aboard! Warning: Paintball is addictive! If you have any questions about things you're looking to buy, PM me here and we'll move the conversation to email.
