50's Chevy Bus

I drive past this bus occasionally. It is parked on the side of the highway. One day I remembered to bring my camera. I thought you would like to see this relic. Could not get any interior photos. No one was around to let me inside. It was padlocked.

Here are the photos of the outside. Enjoy. OH! Does anyone know the year of this bus?

Cool old bus! It is a 1956 Chevy ton and a half. It looks like it should have been included in Jane Lidz book (1979) "Rolling Homes".

Great find

Looks mighty similar in style to the "Hillbilly Hilton" below. It was one of the very many, very peculiar (make that BIZARRE) vehicles in last years' ArtCar Parade here in Houston. It is an annual event that has grown from a grass-roots thing to large and even international proportions. Helluva lot of fun too!

@ Tango
That looks like it was originally a M109 command truck. Its a close cousin to my friend's 6x6 cargo truck.

Re: 50's Chevy Bus

That was my guess. It is one VERY stout chassis! I think you could probably build a two-story, brick condo on that thing and it would be fine.

Nope, just a standard M35 truck. You can see part of the original bed in the pic.

Re: 50's Chevy Bus

Ah you are correct! I was fooled by the tip out window in approximately the correct place.

Re: 50's Chevy Bus

I was wondering where this bus had gone. I have driven by the place where it was parked and noticed that it was gone. I enjoyed seeing it when I drove that way.

Now I know what happened. It is now for sale. I wish there were photos of the inside.

Here is the Craigslist link.
