2. seam sealer
3. bondo up
4. sanded bondo 80 then 120 then 220 grit
5. washed front end then dried
6. primed all of that







no more light holes!

Major milestone completed today. Got ALL of our windows, found a Craigslist ad of a guy parting out several campers so he could tear them down. 4 1/2 hour drive one way, we got 9 used windows and spent $145. they all have screens, and even all still crank open, one even has emergency latches i believe.

They all just need a good cleaning and a few need a gasket touch-up.

Hell yeah, very happy on the find. The guy had everything you want from used campers, sinks, awnings, ladders, old and new style windows, you name it. Was pretty much a mini rv scrapyard. We picked the windows straight from the campers, not even laying in some bushes somewhere. Hope the good fortune keeps on rollin'

made some very good progress today, the drivers side is completely riveted and seam sealed. Now we just have to clean it up and give it another coat of primer.



The rear is almost done, we do not like messing around with body filler.

Driver and passenger side is now riveted and sealed. The plan of laying the sheet metal like shingles worked perfectly.




We are getting ready to prime the bus here, got rid of the old lettering to begin with, washed it with soap and water, then sanded it, then another wash and then we are ready.



Switching off with the tiny spray gun for a tiny home.



One side has primer one it, first coat anyways. getting a bigger gun soon. The top back is done as well. we gave up making it look perfect, but at least its done.



Last but not least, first window was installed. We never thought this we would actually pull this one off too. Perfect fit.

Test fitting it.


Outside view, had to put some rivets in it on the fly to get the seams of the window tight with the transition, but it worked out. Almost done up here.

End of the weekend progress.

I hope that flat glass has enough strength that it won't break from not being straight up and down.

I also don't know how well it well stand up to the air pressure pushing against it while going down the road.

Other than that, your build is coming together really well.

I like your attention to detail and the quality of your work.

International use to have flat but slanted windshields in their trucks and Scouts.. only thing that would bother me about it would be a rock hitting it.. if its side-window style glass it would shatter rather than spider..

Flat windshield glass is very different composition from flat window glass. Not only are they tempered but they have a plastic sheet in between the layers of glass to help support the glass.

Normal flat window glass will shatter with very little weight added to it if the glass is put in a horizontal position. In a vertical position it takes quite a bit of weight to get the glass to shatter.

interesting.. regular automotive glass flat or residential style? IO had forgotten windshields have the plastic layer to add strength and obviously so it will spider and not shatter..

years ago I smacked into the side of a semi at 70 MPH.. the impact bent the roof of my car and shattered the factory sunroof.. that shattered because of the extreme circumstances.. however it was regular autmotive glass and not residential.. and it was not windshield glass since it busted like a side window would.. that RV window he put on his bus would be similar to my sunroof? which lasted 20 years till I crashed the car.. if he used a residential window up there I could easily see where breakage could occur.. or maybe sunroof glass was thicker? I didnt check its thickness I just remember being covered in little pebbles of glass..

-Big_bertha, thanks for calling it a skylight lol, i just referred to it as a window until that point. turned out better than i planned.

-cadillackid, thank you too! and there is some weatherstripping that goes tight against the window and covers the tracks all the way around. I also caulked this sucker up good. Waiting on a good rainstorm now to test, or just enough ambition to whip out the garden hose.

Cowliztcoach, all of those have crossed my mind and my main worry was actually hail hitting it but it is tempered glass from a 5th wheel that was at least 10-15 years old and must've seen a storm or two so i said F*** it and threw it in.

Upgraded to the big time, got a new sprayer.


what a relief, both sides are primed now. Roof, back and front are left and gotta do it soon, winter is fast approaching.

I went to work, and my girlfriend washed and taped the bus, looking fresh and clean.
