Thanks! The bed will be all 2x4 tubing, and the cab part will be the 2x2.
I have know idea how much it will weigh, it won't be too terribly heavy though, I'm guessing just about as heavy as the old body and everything, or a little less.

If I had access to a shop like that, I would be single in no time.
And very cool that you're basically rebuilding the body!

Just sitting here reading this thread again and going "WOW!". Major props and kudos to the OP!
Talk about turning lemons into lemonade. This is gonna be AWESOME!
BTW: A clean shop is the product of a sick mind. (Yes, I'm jealous...)

Thanks everyone!
Around here, if your house is on 5 acres or more, 75% of them have a big shop next to it, and the main use of them is just somewhere to have a few cold beers, haha! Of course they are not built for that purpose, thats just usually what ends up happening

nice flatbed! That project is looking great.
What are you're plans for wheel wells? Is there enough room between the deck and wheels to do without them?

I'm pretty certain that there is plenty of room without wheel wells. After we got the bed set on the frame we put the front end loader of my stepdads big John deere tractor on the rear bumper and pushed down on it, the frame only moved at the most 1/4 of an inch before it picked the front wheels of the tractor off the ground. The only thing I may not be able to haul would be a load of round bales of hay, but that may be a good thing in the sense that I won't be recruited to haul hay, lol!

Aluminum would be easy to work but you need to take into account the dissimilar metal problems of attaching aluminum to steel.
Crown was able to get around that problem so there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to do so as well.

Good flatbed conversion mr. friend
I'm planning that(nearly) exact conversion, except I plan to possibly use a FE and flat-nose skoolie since I like their reduced turning radius. Very good job there I'll add. I had done pretty similar job with my Isuzu FTR 4door w/26' box. I wanted as low as possible finished height since I was pulling 2travel Trlrs like cadillackid's previous posting for Haul&Tow. It was 34" tall X 27' long, including 4' beaver tail X 102" wide. Since selling it 2yrs ago I always wanted to convert a skoolie into same since parts are (likely) easy to get and my engine&trans choices means mechanics are easier to find. Concerning your sleeper skin I'd advise whatever thin panel u can get locally. I'm in Elkhart(RV Central) so fiberglass, laminates& RV panels are at every RV surplus. Have u gotten done enough to weigh your rig yet?
