A second bus? Unnamed conversion take 2
So first a little bit of backstory. I spent about a year and a half converting a 02 international, but have unfortunately now gone off to college, leaving the bus to live at home with my parents. But, it seems after the first project dad can’t keep his hands off another bus! He just purchased a second international from McAllisters Machinery in indianapolis. Payed $3000, so about half as much money as we paid for the first one for what is in my opinion a substantially better bus. When he first told me about it, I couldn’t hardly believe that they were offering a bus like this at that price.
It’s a 2001, so year older than our current bus, it’s a 40 footer instead of a 35 footer like ours, no wheelchair lift, and underbody storage. Other than that, it’s identical. DT466, MD3060, pusher, and high ceiling. A little body rust but that’s to be expected. Only 99k miles and we have the full service history because it just came out of service last month or so.
Very sad i won’t be at home to work full time on it but I have full faith in dads conversion skills, and I can still be the in house bus advisor over the phone. I’ll keep this thread updated to the best of my ability as I get pictures and information

Looks like a sweet bus! We just started our third bus build and finally got a long, rear engine bus with a transmission that's not an AT545. Your dad started off like a boss!

After getting the rear pinion seal and some brake components replaced, dad took the bus home today. Parked it behind the shop on some plumywood.

How much does a paint job on a bus run? I've been thinking of going that route, but not if it's thousands of dollars.

Quoted at 8k. That was for all paint, equipment, labor, etc. And honestly, it’s just so many hours to DIY, he decided it would be worth it to just contract it out. And I don’t blame him

Painting buses is a lot of hard work and pleasing folks is very hard to do. I went to auto body school for a bit and the instructor said its rare anyone gets a vehicle repainted and is TOTALLY satisfied. Its because no vehicle or paint job is ever perfect and with all the prep and bodywork there's a lot of room for failures.
That's why painting a bus is so expensive. To do it right the prep can take weeks and weeks.

You are so right, ECCB!
Proper paint preparation on an automobile can take a single person weeks to get it ready for paint. Now with a bus, it gets multiplied by the size of the vehicle. I understand that the level of finish that a bus may demand is not quite the same as a show car, but folks that want to have a nice job done will still require a nice preparation beforehand.
