Abigail

We purchased our skoolie a little over a month ago. We took about three months to figure out what would work best for our family. We decided to purchase a 1992 Blue Bird 80 passenger pusher. We christened her Abigail after our nation’s second First Lady Abigail Adams.

After I got her home I took out all the benches and noticed the back half of the flooring was spongy. I ripped up the flooring and found a bunch of rotten wood and black mold. Abigail served for 20 plus years in Washington state so plenty of water had it’s chance to find it’s way inside through a couple poorly sealed windows. I removed and replaced all the sealant on the windows. (which was fun since there are 14 on each side!)

We are camping currently in her at Fairchild State Park near Waco, TX. I spent all my spare time building a bedroom for Momma and I, and bunk beds for the kiddos. Since we have four kiddos in our family we put in four bunks. I thought I was going to build the bunks out of lumber but we found awesome metal shelving units at a local big box store which worked perfectly as bunks. We found the perfect mattresses at Ikea in the form of futon cushions.

I still have a ton of work to do on her, but she’s performing magnificently on her first outing. I will post some pics and describe our progress more often now that I’m not spending every free moment working on her.

Next up is cleaning up the paint and getting her ready for paint.
Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for your posts, I’ve learned a lot from ready about others experiences and plans. Learning from y'all has been invaluable in every step of the conversion so far.

Pics

I absolutely will post some pics. I've just been so under the gun to get her ready for our first trip I haven't been able to take any...ya right I've just been lazy about snapping pics while I'm working! I will get off my lazy butt and make sure I document my build better.

Been away from the bus for a while. Life has a habit of getting in the way some times! I've got great news though, my ex wife has agreed to allow my 13 year old son to come live with me in Texas from Florida. We're super excited to get another set of hands to help us turn Abigail into our perfect getaway vehicle!

Had to replace the vibration damper on my 8.3L CTA today. My old one fell apart while in route back home from our first camping trip. Looking forward to finding another 8.3 engine to have rebuilt so this one can be worked over and made new again! Until then we're going to fix what crops up!

We're Back / Batteries

Well, it's been about two years since I've done anything on my bus. Life jumped up and got right in the way!

We're back in action now and rearing to get going making our awesome bus a reality.

First order of business is replacing the batteries. Anyone have any advise of a good source of 8D 1400 CCA batteries?

Thanks Y'all. I will be posting regularly and including pictures.

Smile New Batteries and Air Dryer

Just got my new batteries ordered from:

Batteries Plus 8D 1400 CCA each for $184 with a 10% discount.

and

https://www.ebay.com/itm/AIR-DRYER-1...frcectupt=true

Now I just need to get them, install them, renew Abigail's registration ($260), and then change the oil (20 quarts of fun) and then I will be back on the road!!!
