Re: BigBallsBus documented with pictures

oh man that's a bummer. Hopefully it's an easy fix.

I do a lot of bachelor party's with my bus too... Usually I get just enough to cover my fuel, which kinda makes it not worth it.

yea, ours was only going to be MAYBE 30 miles round trip... so that wouldn't have been too bad on gas... but i can't really take them and have the wheel catch on fire... that wouldn't be a very good bachelor party

Re: BigBallsBus documented with pictures

maybe it depends on how soon we can get someone to look at it. we don't know the extent of the problem and we are at the point where we don't wnat to put any more money into the interior of the bus until we know how expensive this is going to be. i mean if its going to be a lot... we would be better off scraping the bus considering we only paid 1100 for it

Re: BigBallsBus documented with pictures

well we had one of the local schol bus mechanics come out and take a look at the ole bus. he didn't really have any good news. aside from what we already knew, there are plenty of other parts getting ready to bite the dust. we told him we would give him $1000 to make this a reliable bus for tailgating and concerts. (we aren't looking at going on any long hauls) and he said he could probably do that but if we wanted a solid bus it would take more than that. on top of that he is about 2 weeks out...he suggested that we dont drive it past the end of the driveway with the condition of the brakes. so we will hault all expenses until we know the true extent of the problem, but we will continue to finish the flooring and prep for paint on the outside in the meantime. wish us luck

Re: BigBallsBus documented with pictures

well 2 months later the bus mechanic shows up to do some work... he got the pads and calipers replaced but they gave him the wrong brake lines... so hopefully they will have them in stock tomorrow if not then we will have to wait... regardless the bus has to be moved tomorrow the place where we left it at when we had the fire was a friends house that happened to be close... he is starting to get mad so it needs to be moved ... its only going to be moved 3 or 4 miles but it is still a risky drive. after this mechanic fixes the brake line he will be fired ... we will be taking it to someone who does mechanical work out of his home and can get it done in a timely manor... so wish us luck!

Re: BigBallsBus documented with pictures

i don't know what is with brakes... but im glad that soon i will have the piece of mind that it will stop.... i just got a call from the mechanic and he wont have the lines until tomorrow so that means that we are going to have to move it tonight... he said that he is going to bring over a fitting to block that one line and i'll be stopping on three brakes insted of four... this should be fun...

Re: BigBallsBus documented with pictures

just go easy, 3 wheel brakes should stop as good as 4 wheel brakes on a loaded bus, the steering will probably pull to the side with working brakes.
The only safe and cheap way to do the brakes on a 20 year old hydraulic brake system is to bite the bullit and replace every brakeline both steel and flexable, right from the start. the other option is to replace the leaaking line and bleed the system, then replace the next leaking line and bleed the system, and then..., by the time you are done you have replaced all the lines and wasted 2 gal of brake fluid countless hours of time chasing after parts and learnin to cuss like a sailor.
just some friendly advice from someone who has the t shirt
good luck

Re: BigBallsBus documented with pictures

got the bus there safely and the new brake line has been replaced. today was a very progressive day... it was hot as hell so we decided on putting the window ac in today we cut a hole just below the window right in the middle of the bus with in an hour it was down to 65 and getting a little chilly we got the flooring laid the the back w/ black and white checkered self-adhesive vinyl tiles and we painted to bus seats red and faced them together we also made a little bench seat/ table tomorrow we are going to work on getting the booth table put up and maybe some speakers!

If you still have those bubbles, you might try to use a needle. Make a tiny hole and use your fingers later. Good luck!

Re: BigBallsBus documented with pictures

she's really coming along now ... paint is done all that is left is to build the bar... i lucked out and picked up a kegerator from Menard's for 50 bucks! that's right 50... regular price is 499... so we are trying to incorporate that into the bar idea and it is throwing things off a bit bit i will get that worked out tomorrow... took the bus to our softball game tonight and she ran like a champ. Sunday is the real test when we take it to a concert about 40 or so miles away (longest yet)... the only major draw back is that it is leaking antifreeze but we will just keep on filling it up when it becomes a problem once we get everything else finished we will get that leak fixed

We now have a name for the bus.... "Do Work" Will be put on the top between the lights on the front and back... along with some other decals on the sides later on.. but here are some pictures from the concert that we took it too... it is more party shots than bus shots... but i forgot my camera so there will be more on its next adventure
