Bitten by the Skoolie bug

Just joined today after months of surfing the site. I came across this site while looking for an rv to rebuild. Saw the skoolie's and fell in love. You guys ( and girls ) were so helpful in giving me great ideas. I bought my first bus today!!! It's a 91 Ward with a Ford 6.6L diesel turbo, auto trans with 120,000 miles. I heard the motor was low on power, but was a reliable motor. Tires are 80% or better. Motor and trans sound and run great. Hardly any rust (at first look). Hope to have her home Tues. and get some picks posted. C ya

Re: Bitten by the Skoolie bug

Well got her home ( About 100 miles ) with no problems. Took two hrs because she is governed at 65 mph. Motor ran great as did trans. drove good with just a little steering box play. Havent got to look her over good yet, but I feel I got a real good deal. Pic's I took with phone were too big, have to srink them. I'll thy to put them on tomorrow.C YA

well for a college guy a party bus is a camper i guess. haha. once you start deconstruction and clean her up it will feel so much better. i am in the midst of my conversion and today i finally got it completely clean. feels so much better knowing that when i take a shower at the end of the day the water wont be dark brown. haha.

Re: Bitten by the Skoolie bug

Man its like getting a bike on Christmas and you have to go to Grandma's house and can't ride it. Every day I come home I have something else to work on besides MY bus.
If I don't get a fire or a med call, I'm going to atempt to change the oil and all filters. I was hopeing to have more seats to use, but yea the hard work is done!! Got to work on the gas pedal. Its was heck holding it to the floor to top out at 65. My girls held the futons down by sleeping on them on the way home, but they comming out. Anyone know of a good howto site to add a wvo kit to my bus? Cya

Like the party bus look... Ya might wanna be sure to search out the nooks and cranny's you never know what may be hiding on ya. I have a friend who didn't do a good once over on a car he bought and was searched by police dog once made for an interesting situation... Just a thought

It's a nice rig it sounds like you've been busy, no worry's time has it's way of finding you although it is tempting to spend all ones waking hours in our working on his skoolie

Re: Bitten by the Skoolie bug

Well I was able to pull the rubber up from the floor and remove the surface rust Sat and Sun. I was glad to see there was not lot of rust pitting on the floor. The bad news is it's been raining for 5 days now and suposed to keep raining through this Sun. . I guess the good side of it is with the floor clean I can find any leaks. I found a couple at the bottom seam where the floor meets the wall. I think water is seeping in from under the windows. I might try calking them after rain stops. I can always do a water test on parts of the bus with the (fire truck). I'll try to finish up and get some pics on this weekend. Cya

Re: Bitten by the Skoolie bug

Nice lookin bus!! Welcome to the insanity

Check out Smittys site when you get a chance, some good demo stuff there. Also, don't even consider using osb as a floor or subfloor. (hard lesson) don't care what they say at home depo, it shrinks and swells with whether and humidity changes.

Also, if you back over a short fencepost, your tire will go flat quickly! (Another hard lesson

welcome.

Re: Bitten by the Skoolie bug

I was able to do some work on the bus and took pics. My camera batt died and need to get a new one so I can I post them. Have the walls insulated and made a frame for the rear bed. We had a very bad storm blow through Fri. and did lot of damage. Several trees down, shed blew over, and tons of rain blowing all direction but the bus never got a drop on the inside!!
