Blue bus #7

Picked up my bus this morning. It's a 75 international loadstar. Sv345 with at540 transmission. Planning on doing a temporary conversion for now to get an rv title and to be used on our elk hunt in November. After that, a full conversion is the plan as time and money come along. Hello fellow Loadstar owner. Mine is a 71. I have had other old loadstar trucks too, and built/modified a few Internationals. Have fun ,good luck and ask questions if you have any problems.

It was mostly full of junk but the previous owner did live in it for a little while. It has been gutted back out though. There is still a black water tank, fresh water tank, a couple propane tanks still mounted underneath! I drove it home probably 40 miles. Drives great, but shakes a bit over 50mph. I need to look over the suspension. Tires were new in 2015 but only have 2000 miles on them. Should be a good start.

Got all the junk cleaned out and pulled up the osb and rubber. Looks like im going to be doing a bit of rust repair. I knew there would probably be some while crawling around under it when i bought it. Click image for larger version

It looks worse in person. Ive spent my whole life in AZ so ive never really had to deal with rust. Won't be a problem though.

Started out by pressure washing the floor and taking down the walls. I started to take out the lower wall/ seat rail but it's tucked underneath where the floor meets the wall. It seems to add strength anyways so I'll Leave it and probably just cut off the rail portion at some point. Click image for larger version

Then came the beginning of rust repair. The floor behind the rear fenders was pretty rough so i decided I'm going to replace the whole section. Kind of glad i did because i found that the crossmembers in the area had been broken and repaired very poorly at some point. I thought about repairing them but instead i removed them and will just replace them all together. I crawled around underneath and that was the only damaged crossmembers so the rest should be good. I've spent what little time I've had the last couple weeks, cutting out the bad spots and spraying ospho. Finally got time today to take care of the big hole. Installed new crossmembers and sheet metal. Click image for larger version

The chair rail is structural and should not be removed, especially with that much floor missing.

Looks all too familiar. We are roughly at the same stage. Just finished wire brushing, Ospho-ing, then priming the floor metal. If your floor is like mine, beware the short but sharp remnants of rusty fasteners as you crawl around the floor on hands and knees. Harbor Freight has meaty knee pads for 3.99. And you get two!

Whats your plan for when the floor prep is done? I've gotta patch some holes with pieces of cieling metal and automotive seam sealer. Basically, wjat did you remember that I didn't?

After patching is finished, I'll do another coat of ospho, seal any small screw holes, and seams, and then paint it. Then for now, I'll do foam insulation and plywood floor ing and throw some beds, a wood stove, camp stove, etc. until hunting season is over.
