Welcome Shawn --- Nice looking unit you scored there. Even with a gas engine, a Blue Bird is hard to beat. And it sounds like you have the right skill set to pull off a classy build. Looking forward to following it, keep the pix coming.

I checked out that website and wanted to thank you for the rest stop guide. I was going to add all rest stops to my own custom Google map to aid me when travelling, but you saved me that trouble.

Why ever not? Although we have very few switches. Partially because we have switches on each light fixture (not RV stuff) so that I can selectively turn on what I need rather than "all or nothing". The light we slid into the entry door track is on a wall switch since it was impossible to turn the light on/off using the built-in switch.

I was also thinking of setting up some kind of filtering system to take water from the gray tank and be able to use it to flush the toilet, that way I could stretch my water supply and only require a (relatively) small gray water tank. To make this build a true boondocker, I will have to be very careful with water

Why don't you just use the water from your shower? It would generate more semi clean waste water and you would not need the filtering. The soapy water would help keep your toilet bowl clean as well. Use a liquid body soap if you do this. I have found the big 2 pack of aloe hand soap from Sam's Club is the cheapest, soaps up nicely and it's good for washing hair. Bar soap makes the water icky. Too little water in the black tank is not a good thing.

Why not get ride of the bathroom sink and vanity?it takes up alot of room

If you need to wash hands "in the bathroom" how about adding a short faucet to the shower wall?

That Sketchup program is great. It sure makes it easy to plan out an empty bus. Looks like you have a good plan going.

Remember that the more "dual function" items you can put in your bus will save space.

When I built the inside of my bus, I had a clear idea of what I needed (big desk, instrument closet, a place to house my recording equipment, two dog beds, a double sized bed for me, and a large clothes closet. I had to imagine where all this stuff would go. It worked out very well. I did use cardboard mock-ups. If I had to build another bus, I would still use cardboard boxes to see what the ergonomics would be. The beauty of cardboard mock-ups is that you can move them around before committing to the actual building.

I am curious to know if Sketchup takes into account dimensions of length, width, and height.

It will be nice to see pictures of your progress.

If you leave the heater exposed it will work better without warping(drying out)your wood.
As for shaving a SS salad bowl makes a dandy water holder that can be "set" anywhere and won't rust.
a mirror for shaving?you must be young and/or never been on an armored vehicle in the service you shave by feel...if the hand not holding the razor "feels" stubble.....redirect the hand holding the shaver
