Went to California DMV today. Verified VIN, now I go to the CHP to get inspection to register as Motorhome. Need a bed and seats, which I have ready to go in tomorrow.
It needs to be "habitable". DMV said I don't need plumbing or systems, etc. Just a bed and seats.

Make sure you do NOT have seating positions for more than 14 passengers. Anything more than 14 will still classify that as a bus.

Thanks cowlitzcoach, it will have the driver's seat and four captains chairs out of my E150 Ford passenger van, and a bed at the back.

The bed frame is in. I'm trying to take advantage of the metal edge where the seats were mounted. Two bucket seats next.
The 1x4's off to the left will be slats to support the full size mattress: 75x54.

New gauge so the odometer meets California DMV and CHP certification of mileage.
My Blue Bird dealer wanted $280+, found it for $125.

What's wrong with those commie SOBs now? That gauge looks exactly like the one in the dash.

The odometer is not functioning so i need to verify how many miles are on it from the bus computer which i have already determined to be 127k. It can be programmed to reflect the miles for about $30.
Can't register it in Cali with an inoperative odometer.

Commies. What do you care how many miles I have? Ain't none of your damn business. What the hell is the point of an odometer if I can program it to whatever I want?
Couldn't find a junkyard one?

Kind of funny. In Illinois, they don't care about milage on vehicles over 10 years old.

My thinking is it protects future buyers. No meddling with the vehicle mileage please.

To keep the honest man honest? If I can reprogram it putting it in, I can reprogram it before you buy it. Rare 1967 with only 500 miles on it. Buy it before it's gone!!!
Every state I've titled in before has a box right on the title that says "I don't have a clue on my because the odometer don't work no more." MD has historic tags and as part of that you aren't supposed to drive more than 5,000 a year yet even they NEVER check mileage and it still has the inop checkbox.

in Ohio they require an "odometer statement" which is a crock because its on the honor system to state if its correct or not.. with an old bus it really doesnt affect the value.. but with a car it will KILL the resale value.. so of course everyone says "yep correct to best of my knowledge"..
so I take it califormnia connects to the computer and verifies the dash and the ECM match? WTF? what if I replaced my ECM.. ie on my T-444E bus I can replace the ECM and actually type in the VIN to the new ECM and the miles are zeroed.. ie old ECM went bad and you couldnt read it to get the miles..
so at that point if I also replaced my dash gauge and then drove my bus for 6 years and sold it with "72k original miles" no one knows the difference....

In Florida they didn't care about my mileage because of the vehicle's age. Ends up I didn't need to bring the bus to the DMV at all! Oh well I needed to practice driving it at the time!

Of course the DMV guy could be completely wrong. I still want the odometer to work and be accurate and truthful for my own use.

An hour meter might be moar gooder for you. My bus 1) doesn't have one 2) I haven't found it. Odometer works but I've no idea how many hours are on the engine. The ECM for the Commins ISC logs all of that. Idle time, avg mph, overheats, etc.

Completely open underneath right now.
Maybe add a finished front with openings to storage.

That's good and bad. Putting dividers in? Stuff is going to want to shift when on the road but if you have something oversized...
