I was wondering that myself!! What have you learned already? I have a guy willing to trade me a vw shell, and I've been seriously considering it, but I have no idea how I would attach it.

Any ideas on the best way to raise the VW to the top of the bus?

skyhook , what options do you have, an overhead crane would be ideal, next would be a forklift, prep the bus, cut the hole in the nroof and brace it for the construction process, gut the vw including all windows and rough trim to fit the bus roof (make cardboard templates of the roof) install some liteweight cross bracing in the vw body to prevent distortion, hopefully you have access to a pieceof equipment that can lift the vw from overhead with straps thru the windows, another option would be to roundup your buddies and muscle the body up, first onto some staging and then onto the bus, make a plan where safety first is the primary goal and then follow it.

well a roof off a VW bus without the glass in it should be prety light you could build a big wedge or ramp like 2x6s and greese em up then pull it up with rope ill bet you could do it three guys two to pull one to steer, or all three to pull if steep ramp. We sell car bodys and once there striped and you cut It in half its faily light and can be loaded with two guys. Make sure before you cut the body that weld in bracing do an x and some going across to hold the width, (look at how they chop a top on a hot rod) you could weld it in but do stitch welds to keep warpage and heat down. I thought why not cut the bus with tabs that i could fold out (like little paper boxes in school with glue tabs) that could then be screwed down to the roof or wood frame.
