Created a back deck for my skoolie and wanted to share (New Member/First Post)

Hi everyone,

I have been a lurker on the forums for a while reading posts and getting knowledge to build my skoolie without posting myself. Well, it was due time to introduce myself and my skoolie; The S.S. Space Cadet.

This is the back deck I created with the help of a buddy or two:

I connected two trailer channels to the frame of the bus. The channels are about 8 inches long. Two bolts hold the back deck in place

For the deck i used composite decking and i put an OSB board underneath to make the wood sit taller.

Let me know what you think!

Welcome to the forum!
I was trying to figure out what you meant by "trailer channels".
Oh he means trailer hitch drawbar receivers.
I like it, good job.
If you added two pieces of drawbar going down at a right angle to your existing drawbar you could carry that deck vertically.
But no rear door access like that.
Du....homer Simpson style....
Nevermind the vertical idea, you would have to accommodate your rear lights and license plate.

That's when you turn the upper flashing lights to tail lights.

Nice job. That 2" tubing is expensive, isn't it? You could always make the upper flashing lights into tail lights if you wanted to make a deck that folds.

My buddy actually owns an industrial welding company and was able to spare all of that for my project so I'm not entirely sure about the price. Thats a great idea with the lights! The deck is actually going to be used to hold my 2 Honda eu2000i generators. Im going to create a metal cage to keep them from being taken. It'll impede my door from fully opening but I can live with that. They should stand tall enough to block the lights but i may change the top ones anyway.

Congratulations on the back porch. I was thinking of a different kind of Honda on the back deck, but generators work.

I'd like to make the high tail lights too if I can find the lenses in the right colors. I've seen people put spotlights in them.

My first thought too. OSB can barely handle indoor humidity.

I bought a nice cable lock for my generator in addition to strapping it to the deck. I will be making metal straps to hold it down and a dismountable fake dog house cover to conceal and protect and muffle the sound especially when i dismount the generator to move it away from the bus.

Jeep, bus, repeat.

You mean like a motorcycle? I've been trying to figure out the best way to cary my 2006 Ninja 600r with my bus. I plan on going cross country with my bus and I feel like driving a 35ft long school bus around some cities may be difficult/frustrating at times.

Yup, a motorcycle on the back was what I was thinking. I'm planning on getting a dual sport bike for running around and trail riding, but I'm keeping it in the rear of the bus via the wheelchair lift.
