Rud rails are coming off....They hold a lot of dirt. And when you wash it takes it for ever to stop dripping dirty water. Plus I was shocked to see how much rust was starting i am glad I found it when I did...If you plan on keeping your bus nice after all that work take them off. I had my bus all painted and it wasn't even a year I could see rusty water coming out from under the rails.....The big plus it looks a hole lot better.......Thats my take on it..

Nice work on the ceiling! What size are the strips that hold the luan in place?
Will the curved parts of the roof (sides) be covered by shelves?

The furring strips are 1 1/2"x 1/2" I just took a 2x4 and ripped it into 1/2" strips. The sides will be hidden by cabinets and where their are no cabinets I will put panels to cover the sides.

WOW! I just got home from a three day, two night primitive "tent" camping trip at an area on the lake with no facilities, not even a picnic table. We have been going to this site for about eleven years. But the older I get, the less fun it is. I enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, but I am worn smooth out. Maybe it is knowing there is a nice big bus sitting here at home waiting to get finished. I am done with the "tent and ice chest" kind of camping.
I have the next two days off so I should be reporting some progress soon.

Fixed it for ya. Seriously though. That is the plan, to use it as we build it. But right now it has no windows since it has all been closed in. That would have been brutal. Also, where we went, the bus could not go because it is tight trails. That's unfortunate too because it would be awesome to camp in the bus back in there. The pics make it look like there is a nice big road leading back in there but it is no more than a narrow two track with low overhead clearance. Keep in mind too that the satelite pic was taken in the fall.

Picked up a dinghy for the bus yesterday. It will serve as a daily driver for me since my truck only gets 11mpg.As well as a toad to pull behind the bus when we go on trips without the rockcrawler or boat. It is a '91 and all original including the paint and, uh, the graphics :barf: With in an hour of getting it home I was in the garage with a heat gun.

I gotta say, Im a bit jealous.
1st- youre skinning your bus exactly how I am skinning mine. I have four brand new rv windows to go in as well.
2nd- That sammy is awesome. There are very few of those around that haven't been severly abuse and/or modified, much less white(favorite vehicle color)
3rd- You're actually working on your bus whereas I have other obligations that have to be met first, although I am still in the gathering stage(hopefully picking up a generator today)
ps.- If the sammy is too "girly", I'm interested.

Hey thank swhite. Don't be jealous, priorities come first. I have actually taken a short break on working on the deuce because it was consuming our life for a while. The kiddos start school today and we have been gearing down over the last week and getting back on a non summer track. We will be back out there soon working on the bus some more though. As of right now, I plan on haning on to the sammi for, um, ever. I have always wanted one but could never convince my wife to get one until now because we have a need for one. It just happened to work out that I also needed a cheap DD.
